I figure something MUST be out there to enable hyper threating on non 3.0ghz p4s.. I mean, isn't the feature built into every northwood processor but disabled? Maybe I don't really understand the technology, but it would be sweet to unlock the feature on my 2.4b!

When I picked up my 2.53 from frys I got to talking to one of the dudes there for a bit. He was telling me about a conversation he had with an intel engineer where he was told that there are actually two ways to enable ht on P4 chips. He said the engineer wasn't specific at all (obviously) but he said there was a pin mod and some other method that I can't remember. Both of which would enable it. Who knows. I'm sure there's some way. Good luck finding it though.

From what I remember in the HT 3.06 Review here at AT, the HT logical units are there in non-HT P4s, but they are physically disabled/non-activated on the core level. No softmods or bridge alterations are going to bring them back to life. If you can figure out how to, you could also probably unlock your Intel CPU. ;)

I wonder why people always figure out the guts of Athlon cpus (figuring out how to connect bridges, etc. a few days after the chip comes out) while the P4 is still relatively unhacked..

Yep. Since they physically disable it at the core level, software mods can not fix it.

cuz the bridges are actually there on the amd's to fool around with
afaik on p4's theres ntohing under the heatspreader but the core...no bridges or anything

only thing you can fool around with is the pins on the cpu itself, which ppl have to find out how to increase voltage

Yes...

No...

Some ppl try this at the overclocker forums... I think they only got a 2.4Ghz Unlocked ES to enable hyper threating.
But that was a Unlock ES chip so it really didn't count :(
I haven't looked to see if there was any update make but I don't think they be able to do it...

Only if we can't put up with any more ppl asking "How do I enable HT?".. :p

I would like to see a thread that says "I have enable HT and I'll tell you how" :D
Thats would be more helpful as a sticky then this...
