Trick question

How is it that my memory can run fine at 258Mhz, 1:1, and crash at 250, with the FSB at 300 and a 5:6 divider?

Is it my CPU or my motherboard, or something else I don't even suspect?

Multiplier is 10x, timings are identical.

System specs are as follows:

Opty 146
OCZ VX (Original batch, UTT-CH, or so I've been told)
DFI LP UT RDX-200
X1800XL
Enermax Liberty 500

a lot of times, the bios has trouble with a divider. try a different bios.

Your trying to run a 3Ghz opty, are you sure your 146 is capable of running 3Ghz, you know not all of them can.

Also your mobo could be failing at 300HTT, but i was under the impression that the DFI RDX200 was able to exceed 300HTT quite easily, just like most DFI?s.

In this scenario i would recommend reading zebo's guide and try and isolate the problem, you need to ascertain what each components is capable of. Also try different BIOS's (i don?t know which one?s to recommend) but some behave differently with different setups etc, you could possibly get more help on the mobo at DFI street forums.

I agree with RichUK it could be the chip or the mobo stopping you in this case. Have you tried increasing the chipset voltage? Running 300HTT will almost certainly require a bump to the the chipset volts.

1. Isolate your maximum HTT according to Zebo's guide and determine what chipset voltage is required at different HTT levels.

2. Isolate your max CPU overclock by running a low divider and the max CPU multi.
