If I knew the person as more than a coworker, I would approach them as a friend and explain to them that I know what they are up to and that I don't approve. Tell them to stop and if they don't I would then report it.
That is the exact answer I gave in an interview once as a teenager. I got the job. Ok, it was a slicer at an Arby's, but still I got the job.

Just tell them what they want to hear.

Exactly, and show them that you don't have morals.

Urhrmm... helping out a criminal steal proves you don't have morals. Standing up for the law and reporting criminal activity means you have morals and wont let them be swayed simply because you know the person..

Wrong. Everyone has morals. Just some people's morals differ from others.

He can't be wrong since his definition of morals differs from yours :p

So then if my morals tell me it is okay to rape and kill everyone I see, then I am a morally correct in my actions?

This is the best answer so far in my book.

yes, you are morally correct in relation to your morals. however, in relation to the morals of the people judging you... prolly not. ethics are basically a set of rules placed on everyone by society. morals are self-placed and so everyone has morals, just maybe not good ones =P

i don't have ethics, but i have morals ;)

I don't have any family, thus I'd never have that situation to begin with. Plus it free's up all my time to work for you. ;)

Yes, they want you to tell them. Throw in that it will be good for the family member since stealing is wrong.

I'm really confused on this one, since it's like, super honest and betrayal, or, bleh

You are correct, this question is about balancing loyalty. The "textbook" answer is you talk privately with your family member (ahem) and give them the opportunity to confess. Then if they do not, you turn em in like the dirty rat you really are.

So if you defend a thief who is a family member you don't have morals?

I would never betray my family. I would tell him that it wasn't right and that he shouldn't do it and bitch-slap that family member but turning him into the police? No way.

Well, then you become an accomplice and go to jail with him. No one will feel sorry for you being involved in a crime family.

What about if a family member was a rapist or a murderer? Would you turn them in?

That's another can of worms. The OP talked about stealing.

The correct answer is: "force/convince the family member to turn themselves in."

I would say,"I'm a team player. I would confront that family member first and try to convince them they are wrong. If that doesn't work and believed my efforts were in vain, I would then confront the boss." I'm trying to resolve the issue without bothering upper management, but yet, have them to turn to if I am unable to quickly resolve it.
