ok.. hehe sorry I'm a little slow today.. but let me get this straight. If I get an SLI mobo and 2 vid card... I can't go dual or tripble monitors? is that what you're trying to say? sorry for my slowness today.

Your SLI videocards in SLI mode will only drive a single monitor.

If you get a PCI card with dual output, you can use 3 monitors total.

If you get two PCI cards with single output, you can use 3 minitors total.

So, SLI is meaning less if I want dual mononitor or more... I have 6800gt ulta with Dual DVI and a SLI board. I haven't open any of them yet... so should I return the SLI board and and the 6800gt utlras and get the non sli board and an 850xt pe instead then?

Did you read the SLI article?

It's still going to get you better performance on your single gaming monitor than any single card you can buy right now.

Oh, and there isn't a 6800gt ultra. It's either gt or ultra.

hi jello, I did read the SLI article, but gaming isn't as important as dual+ monitors for me. about the typo, I meant the ultra not the gt ultra. Thanks for correcting me.

Whoa... if gaming isn't important to you, just get an X800XL or something (or less).

What kind of games are you planning on playing?

Spending $500 or more on videocards is insane unless you're rich or are planning on going a LOT of gaming.

Benchmarks of lesser cards

A dual DVI X800XL or 6800gt and a cheapo $40 PCI card would get you what you want.

He is rich..
have you seen people getting 3 x 2005FPW?
This is my first time.
however, I wouldn't do that myself even if I have that much money... just my own opinion.

I've seen people buying multiple 19" to 20" LCDs in several areas, but yeah, it does seem like a good indication of wealth heh.

Personally I'd rather have a single larger monitor (like the 24")

Or even just a nice CRT and a kicka$$ projector for when I want something larger.... like I have right now 😉

hehe, I'm not rich.. i'm just middle class person. 🙂 Any how... I have thought about the x800 xl or xt watever.. with Dual DVI.. but in the futer I might game more, so getting an x850xt pe might help.. but other wise ... right now SLI is out of my rig.

If you're not going to game in the immediate future, I'd say get a more budget card now and wait for the next generation of videocards to come out that are right around the corner. Soon you might be able to get a single card that will even outperform the SLI setup you were going to put together.

What are you planning on doing with triple displays by the way?
