Neither did I.
Also never mastered the mine-disk autokill skill.
Which is why I pretty much remained on light D/base repair.

With ski scripts I dunno how anybody could not learn to ski. It wasn't that hard without the scripts either, you basically just mash the spacebar while going down a hill.

Competitive Tribes 1 was the best experience there has ever been in gaming IMO. It was a sport more than a game. The whole scene was quite ahead of its time as well with important ladder matches being broadcast. (audio broadcasts because video was out of the question back then).

Good times, but I'm too old now to put that kind of time into a Tribes game.

I 100% agree with ^^^

I remember sitting there covered in sweat, while just moving my hands to play the game. I played T1 Base only, and on the OGL and TWL ladders. So much fun, by far my all time favorite game ever.

They made Global Agenda

I'm looking forward to this game. I'm curious how/what is buyable since it is F2P.

Don't be surprised if it's COMPLETELY free... as in no microtransactions. Reason: This is the precursor... techdemo if you will for Tribes: Universe. If they garner a lot of support/press behind Ascend, Universe will likely be subscription-based.

No, Hi-Rez has already said there will be micro-transactions. Instead of letting you completely choose which weapons and pieces of equipment to select for your character, you'll have to purchase 'loadouts'.

The game will come with a set number of loadouts and then they'll release new loadouts on a regular basis kind of like how League of Legends gets a new Champion every couple of weeks. You don't have to buy the loadouts though as you can earn them in the game too with some unrevealed leveling system.

Two weapons load outs is silly, all the reloading is silly.

That being said, pretty excited about this game. Looks fast, and fluid. Which T2 wasnt upon release. Bringing back some old school.

Hi-Rez is starting a closed beta in September and then opening it up later in the Fall. It will start with 15 loadouts and also include a remake of Katabatic from Tribes 2.

nowai! i haven't played tribes since forever! do want. makes me wanna go reinstall some tribes 2 and fail disc-launcher some more since i sucked with that gun

Tribes was so much fun and Tribes 2 added to the fun with the fast moving vehicles.

I remember doing fly by flag grabs with friends. You could hop out of the plane at full speed, jet pack through to grab the flag and re-seat into the plane as it passed the base.
Rinse, dry and repeat. 🙂

On Tribes 1 I remember placing a rail cannon into a wall at one of the large floating base maps. When you activated the cannon, you could see and shoot through the wall. People were pissed because you could rail them, but they couldn't damage the cannon and it was buried deep in the base.

...Sorry... I am just reminiscing.

pre-ordering F2P game does not compute lol

No such thing as a free 2 play game, they all have gimmicks built into them to encourage spending money on some feature or another.

AFAIK buying Tribes Ascend gets you things you'd otherwise have to pay for individually or work your butt off "earning" through in-game feats.

As a major fan of the franchise and general game-type I am very willing to spend a meager $30 to support the developers even if ultimately the only thing it truly nets me is early access to the beta.

New build is almost here.
Tribes goes into Closed Beta on Friday!
BF3 is a blast
Uncharted 3 comes out this week, too.

It's going to be a good week!
