Tri-Fire PSU?

I was wondering if my PSU could handle an added 4870x2.

Here's what I have so far:

650W Enermax
HD4870 1G
i7 920
DVD burner
Asus P6T
6GB Patriot RAM

I was wanting to either add a 4870X2 to the existing single GPU to make a tri-fire system. Would I need to updraged the PSU?

I know that nvidia recommends a 1200watt PS for Tri-SLI. So I'm pretty confident more than 650W will be necessary for 3X CF also.

I wouldn't trust an enermax with a system worth that much, even if it could power it

Which Enermax? Some of them from recent years had a nasty habit of blowing the primary side.

I heard the Liberty series blew up pretty often, the newer ones MODU82+ I think had pretty favorable reviews. I was an owner of the Liberty 620W, that one died, but fortunately it didn't take out any components with it. Now I just use Corsair

apparently the caulk Enermax was using to anchor the capacitors etc. was conductive....that was the problem IIRC.

That said, I don't think I would try HD4870+HD4870X2 on any 650W power supply. I personally would look for something 800W plus.

I would look at a 1KW+ for that setup if u are truly pushing the hardware. A PCP&C 1KW or Ultra X3 1.2KW being on my list.

What about if I just added another HD4870 1G? Would my PSU be enough to handle that?

Yes it should have no problems power wise, but I think it would be wise to invest in a more reputable PSU for your rig. You've already invested alot of money into your PC and I personally wouldn't risk it with a cheaper PSU

I was wondering why Enermax is not reputable? I read decent reviews and this was recommended to me?
