I currently have a corsair TX850M powering my rig. I'm running an i5 4670K (no overclock yet) Asus Hero mobo, 8 gigs ram with 1 SSD and 1 Hard drive. Standard case fans (2 120mm) and a H80i for cpu cooling. I have have crossfire 270X Toxics at the moment and I have a deal lined up for a 3rd.
Would my 850 support tri fire without issue or should I go bigger? If I need to go bigger, what brands would be the best and how much power would I need to comfortably run this setup with room to overclock? Thanks.

AMD R9 270X does not support triple crossfire. If you want more performance, upgrade to dual 290's. A single 290 is already a sidegrade, so dual 290's would give you much more of a performance increase than a third 270X would, if it was possible. Your 850W would be fine for that.

I'm curious - what's your gaming display resolution?

You should definitely OC the 4670K, it can already limit the 270X Crossfire performance, depending on game and situation.

The Toxic edition supports both tri/quad fire. Currently running 1920x1080 but upgrading soon. I'm more curious about running it as I've had SLI and crossfire before but never more than 2 cards. Kinda of a what the hell venture. Just want to be on the safe side with my PSU.

For 1080p I would definitely not upgrade to 270X trifire, it just doesn't need that much processing power. For a larger res monitor I'd definitely want more than 2GB VRAM. I can't think of any reason to run 270X trifire when there's a decently priced single GPU that competes with 270X Crossfire and has more VRAM.

Also note that third card scaling won't be as good as second card scaling.

I understand all of that, but it's a 'why not for the hell of it thing'. Just want the right amount of juice as not to damage anything. I'm sure I'll sell them and go crossfire R9 290X in the near future.

A single 270X consumes 122W at load and the Toxic is slightly factory OC'd so let's say 130W. That's 390W for the three cards, so the TX850M should be able to handle the cards. Unfortunately, it only has 4 PCIe connectors, so you do need to use molex to PCIe adapters.

I'm a little worried about temperatures when one card is sandwiched between the others. Generally speaking, using more than two cards with a non-blower style cooler is not a good idea at all.

By the way, can you support that claim that it does support triple crossfire? I'd just like to know if it's official information or something. I thought the 270X GPU itself can't handle more than dual GPU crossfire.

Thanks. Solving the heat issue is my next problem, especially with the Tri Fan on the Toxic. I don't think it will work with my board, not enough spacing between slots. The PSU connectors aren't a big deal, I have enough molex adapters. I have contacted Sapphire support and they told me they can indeed run in triple and quad crossfire.

So are you planning to buy a brand new board to see how the cards work in trifire? Hope not. Do the right choice and go 290 crossfire / GTX 780 SLI once you upgrade the monitor :)

Definitely not getting a new board just to see how it runs. I'll hang tight til I go 4K then sell and buy something else. I was going through my list to see if it would work. PSU was ok for it but then after checking spacing and heat I realized it wouldn't work.

Have 2 sapphire toxic r9 270 running in crossfire, will a third card Improve any performance?
have an Asus M5A 99FX pro, AMD FX 8350 running at 4.5 GHz, Swiftech H 220,16 GB of 1866 MHz RAM , & Intel 530 SSD 480 GB X2 in RAID O, Corsair RM 1000 PSU. My present case does not allow any more card ( CM 690 III)
Thinking of upgrading to Corsair 780 T , if the performance improves by 25-30% , going to add another card.
But want to know how much improvement is expected in Triple Crossfire?
