Which of these 2 setups should i go with for BEST highest and stable frame rates. Is scaling an issue still with the 590's?

1) Tri SLI GTX 580 (3x 580's)

or

2) Quad SlI GTX 590 (2x 590's)

I don't think you could go wrong with either one, but I would probably go with what you could get cheaper, due to the diminishing returns of > 2 GPUs.

Also I hope we are talking 30 inch monitor(s) here :)

Yeah in terms of diminishing returns on scaling, I'd think the two card setup would just make more sense...but it definitely blows my mind on thinking of budget and power. Dare I ask what you're going to play that is going to push that setup? And hopefully your CPU isn't a Celeron...:)

As the drivers mature, 2 gtx590 will beat a tri sli setup. As of now there are no good reviews with the gtx590 and the latest drivers.

If I had the budget, I'd go with 3 580s vs 2 590s. 3 580s should be able to beat 2 590s due to much higher clock speed and the 4th gpu scaling will be very low.

580s also can be overclocked very easily, 590s however is a whole different story.

Unless you have a system with a 4.4 ghz i7 2600 and a 30 inch monitor, either setup will be bottlenecked anyway.

if somebody is spending $1500 + on video cards alone it's reasonable to assume that he has a modern rig and either a high end 30" monitor or multi-monitor.

I'd go with 3x580 just b/c of the issues that have come to light with the 590.

Im using with 1 1080p 3D TV . i want at least 60 fps per eye in 3d mode which means at least 120 fps in 2d. I know its overkill either way, but i don't want to cut it close

If your TV can take a 120hz in put than you should try two GTX 580s first. That should be more than enough for 1080p resolution & 120hz.

3 GTX 580s. They overclock great and there is far less chance you'll fry them.

You will quickly notice happy medium is a complete nVidia fanatic and believes anything is possible when it starts with a n.

However, the gtx590 as they are with the power circuitry and all that will never ever beat 3x GTX 580's / it is NOT possible that nVidia would achieve with 700 Watts something that usually takes them 900 Watts (without overclock, which you don't get on the 590).

Don't get me wrong, the GTX 590 will be an awesome card, when it gets a new PCB with less retarded design, 4x 8-pin at least and mandatory watercooling.

Tri-SLI scaling is probably more consistent right now, not to mention two 590s are liable to catch on fire.

(I cannot believe *no one* on this thread has asked this).

OP, please tell us *what TV you are using* that actually accepts 120hz input! There are many many people who would love to buy a tv that has this feature, thanks so much!

Errr, good luck choosing a gpu setup, I can't help you there.

Edit: dang, I bet it's a projector or DLP, isn't it? But please tell us the model and if you've already been using it for gaming, what the input lag and ghosting situation is. Thanks!

Nvidia supports 3dTVplay now (many 3dTV's), which works with the TV's native 3d glasses.
This is on top of the older 'way' where you used the glasses from the 3dvision kit with 120mhz pc monitors and select Mitsubishi and some others on a short list of 120mhz televisions.

no way would I want to have TWO 590s dumping all that heat in the case. 580 tri sli would probably scale better and would certainly keep all your other components much cooler.
