This is the correct answer.

While legal, doesn't mean you won't need hundreds of thousands defending a civil suit.

Which is why I absolutely LOVE Floridas "Make my day" law which says that you can't be tried criminally or civily if you are defending yourself (and/or property?) from a potential attacker. If, in the process of defending yourself, the attacker (alleged...lol, he/she is dead so it's your word vs theirs) dies then such is.
