Haven't used any of these TEW-800MB units, but I have a similar AC1200 TrendNet TEW-814DAP Access Point, which works in client mode. One of the big differences is, the AP only has a single gigabit ethernet port, whereas the media bridge has four, and claims to have a "high power amplifier".

(I don't know if the amp applies to the 2.4Ghz or the 5Ghz band(s).)

Well, I have something disappointing to report. These units are still on the initial release firmware. There have been NO updates, since ... 2013. (Security issues???) Anyways, my main router is an AC68U running Tomato. I had it configured for channel 149 80Mhz for my 5Ghz AC, and this media bridge would NOT see my 5Ghz network.

So I changed my channel to 36, and now it can see it and reports an 860Mbit/sec rate.

I remember, at some point, they opened up the higher 5Ghz channels for usage for AC wifi. It seems that the firmware on this media bridge pre-dates that.
