tree + stump removal cost?

Sort of off topic, but river birches have to be about the messiest trees I have ever dealt with. We have a very large one fairly close to the house (10 feet from the garage probably) and the amount of sticks that thing drops every time the wind blows is staggering. Mine is a fair bit bigger than the ones in your picture, but you have two to deal with so I imagine it is about the same. I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of them.

$975 for those two trees plus stump removal would be a good price around here for an insured removal service, even better if they are hauling everything off. You might ask if they are going to clean out the pits once the stumps are ground. That is a decent amount of work and will be a lot of waste to get rid of otherwise.

YES. I have one in my backyard. I refer to it as "That Asshole Tree". It's a nonstop cleanup process with that thing. I can round up a garbage can full of sticks. Then two days later have to do it again. I'm ready to have mine cut down since it's such a pain in the ass to clean up after. $975 seems like a deal and I'd probably take pleasure in setting the rotting stump on fire at some point in the future.

It's done, trees are gone

Aside from a few spare chips in the lawn where they got everything out, it was cleaned up well and it's like they were never there. The cost hurts now, but I think it's well worth it for how quickly they got it out of there. Plus the guy knows I need a bunch of fill dirt for my empty pool area, and told me he'd send some my way the next time someone needs to get rid of it, so that's a nice bonus.

We had a tree taken down couple weeks ago because there was one major dead limb that was bound to fall and would have probably hit the house. Cost was 1200, we had them just take the wood and dump it in the woods in the pasture. Here's a picture of it.

I'm getting ready to finally attempt to remove one of my stumps this weekend - I have about 500 pounds of anthracite left over from the heating season. That stuff burns hot! I'll get some started, and build a frame to hold a leaf blower. I figure with the leaf blower pumping in air under the stump, I can burn that thing right out. I'll just have to keep stoking the fire with anthracite to make sure it stays hot enough; I assume the wood is very damp.

The above stump would be $200-350 here for grinding and this is an expensive area. Additional stumps that size maybe 50-100 each after that. It would be done with a pretty serious machine.

Have you tried any of the nitrate based stump removers? The whole entire stump will burn after the chemical soaks in without forced air like you described. Otherwise tring to burn a wet stump is going to smoke like crazy and may be unsuccessful (unless you put in a ton of effort & fuel to maintain the fire)

A whole ton of fuel, huh? I only have 1/4 ton. No, haven't tried the nitrates - that's a lot of holes to drill and a lot of nitrates to use - very large stump.

If it helps in your decision making, once the nitrate soaks in and then you light it, it burns unattended and even underground; the nitrate supplying its own oxygen to sustain combustion. The entire stump will reduce to ash, even the underground portions. Its impressive to watch over the course of the burning. You are left with a hole where the root ball was as the aboveground portion of the stump collapses into the hole. I like to add some diesel before starting to make it easier to light.
