So i wake up this morning to my sis running into my room yelling that the tree on the sidewalk fell over onto my moms car which the neighbor witnessed and came over to tell us. My mom isn't even here she went to BigBear for the weekend. I also leave in 45 mins to work so i dunno who i am supposed to call to come get the damn thing. It is an OLDDDDDDD tree that died a long time ago and my mom has been trying to get the city to remove/replace it for a long while now.

Does she have documented proof of communications with the city?

If so, she would be in a great position. Also, was it on city prperty? Because where I live, a big tree was struck by lightning and killed, called the city and they removed it the next day.

Just find out who she talked to, call them up and say "Could you please come and replace it now?! I need to get to work and it is draped over my car at the moment..."

That tree had no roots!

don't know why, but i suddenly laugh from reading this.

sorry... i have a dead tree in front of my house too, it is about twice as thick, 4 times as tall as op's... it is going to be $600 at least to have it cut down.

If you wanted it down so bad why didn't you just take a chain saw to it? Or by the looks of it... push it over?

The city owned the tree?

Boulevard trees, grass and land are typically owned by the city. However, owners of the house are required to upkeep (mow) the grass. The city takes care of the trees (trimming, planting, removal, stump grinding).

Yeah, I didn't notice it was between the sidewalk and the curb, I thought there was no sidewalk.

Is the area between the sidewalk and the fence considered city property? If not, I don't see why the city should be responsible for anything.

EDIT: Nevermind, my question is answered. 🙂

#1. The tree is on your property, yet she's trying to get the city to remove it??? RIIiighgt. It's called private property for a reason.
#2. That's what Homeowners Insurance is for.
#3. Call a Tree Service. That's what they do. For a LIVING!!!!

That actually doesn't look bad at all, as long as whoever removes it doesn't ****** it up.
The drivers and passengers windows are intact, which suggests the A pillars are still okay, and it looks like the entire weight of the tree is supported by the windshield.

Maybe in Minnesota, but in CA, the property line extends to the street, and you grant an easement to the city for the sidewalk.
