Tree experts - help!

My maple tree has been dying for the past couple months. Hopefully its not too late to salvage! I'm looking for advice from tree gurus here.

The tree - half of it is dead

The half where the leaves completely died

blight? thats the only thing i know about tree diseases.

Go to your local nursery and ask them. They know trees and they know the area.

I'm doing some research and it looks like Anthracnose

Anyone have experience with this disease?

no.

a) try watering it if possible.
b)looks like an insect attack to me(like bag worms but didnt see any in picture)

I don't see any insects (on the tree nor on the ground - although an infestation of ants are known to be in the area).

I'm not even sure what kind of maple it is... is it a sugar maple?

looks like a red maple to me. what color does it go in Autumn?

Just get rid of it now. Way too close to the house. The roots are going to cause trouble when it gets bigger. Especially with the sprinkler valves right there.

I see sprinkler valves in the nearby background. Was the sprinkler system installed before or after the tree was planted?

Yeah I was wondering what it was doing so close to the house. Don't maple trees get really big? The ones in my yard are. Not sure if it's the same kind of maple.

Arbor day info says red maples (if that's what it is) grow 30-40' tall 40' spread. I'm a real estate investor, so i've seen what trees can do. Pretty impressive when a root can crack the footing of a house that is 2' thick concrete.
