Tread problems?

So I know my Mustang is riding a little funny. The wheels need to be aligned. However, I also am probably in need of new tires, and planned to get them at the beginning of next year, so was planning to get that done then as well. A little vibration doesn't bother me. My car however might not agree?

I took a little video showing the tread on the tires. The front driver side, the one that is out of alignment, shows the basically bald tire towards the outside, but the inside doesn't look that bald. Is that because the alignment is off? Is this a problem?

Also, what are those lights in the front? They don't turn on when I turn on my lights, and not sure what their function is or how/when they turn on. My guess is they are fog lights...but still not sure how to use them.

Cant tell jack lol, Its better to turn the wheel so we can see it better. also put a penny in the tread

From the video looks like thre tread is the same all along the tire. So you are going to need to get some more detailed pics! with pennies!, Put the penny in the tread closest to the inside of the car as your car prob has a little bit of camber which makes the tire sit like / so the innerside would ware down more then the out.

If the mid section of the tire is wearing out before the outsides, = to much air pressure
If the edges are wearing out before the insides = too little air pressure

Toe can also kill tires quickly

lights in the front are AFTERMARKET fog lights. the person who installed them might wire them up to turn on via headlights or parking lights or a toggle switch somewhere in the cabin. Sounds like he used a switch. They dont do much, more show then anything.

video doesn't show me too much, from what i see camber wear on the tire. The video doesn't show how the tire sits on the ground. for example if the tire is like | | or / /.

It looks like a problem tho, if your tires aren't directional, i would swap front left and right and moniter the tire wear. The Vibration could be due to a loose or broken suspension part on the driver side that could be causing excessive play while the wheel is in motion so your driving with a wheel wobbling causing more wear on the outside.

The statement wheels need to be aligned can mean different things. A car get aligned and wheels/tires gets balanced, when you buy tires they will take care of the tire balancing part but they will not align your car ( they often sell you that service for $50-$150) you get a print out of the before and after. A good tech will inspect all parts and tell you if things are broken/loose before attempting to do an alignment. An alignment is pointless if you bad a bad part.

I'll see if I can get some better ones tomorrow if these don't do justice.

Driver's side:

Passenger's side:

I'll take a better look at how the wheel is slanted and make sure they are inflated correctly tomorrow. Hoping I don't have to get new tires before the year is out.

rotate them for now. if anything you just need ONE new tire or if you like to buy them in pairs you just need 2.

Could be that a balance weight has fallen off...

Doesn't look like there is a huge amount of meat on the tires, the front drivers is nearly at the wear bars.

What are the winters like where you are?

In NC, so winters aren't bad normally.

It was raining today, and I was driving a little fast...being careless really. I was turning onto the road that leads to the school parking lot (nobody around), and I ended up spinning tires. Okay, not that bad, but since it was wet, everything started to spin. I think I made the mistake of hitting the brakes/pushing the clutch in, but I spun out and my front tire (one that I think is off alignment) on the driver's side hit the curb pretty hard (as in, car spun around, driver's side hit curb on right side of road on driver's side, so the actual rim too). The car rode fine to the parking lot, and I'll check it out this afternoon, but I think I may go into a shop and get 2 new fronts + alignment pretty soon, especially if I screwed something up and have to get more done.
Do they just align the front or back two or all usually?

They should align all four wheels.
