I know that statistically speaking, flying is one of the safest methods of travel in today's world, but.....

with the track record of musical artists that have died in small plane crashes, I think I'd likely go see if I could get ahold of an M1-A1 tank, and travel in that! About the only thing you'd get creamed by would be a train (okay, and maybe a crazed terrorist with a missile!!).

RIP to those that died, best wishes for the others hospitalized.

It seems there are a lot more smaller planes going down lately...hell even seems like there are more problems with jetliners as well.

Another unconfirmed report, perhaps "some" good news for Travis, but not so much for Adam Goldstein :(;

"TMZ has learned Travis Barker has been burned from the waist down, but he is expected to survive the plane crash. DJ AM's face was severely burned and is being tended to right now."

When will rock stars learn not to fly in small planes?! Has anyone ever done a study on this? Doesn't it seem like rock stars have a ridiculously high incidence rate of plane crashes?

Hopefully he will be ok. Despite my dislike of Blink182 he is a great drummer

Because they fly on them 3-7 days a week?

Just increased odds, I would imagine.

Meh... I never cared for Blink-182 anyway.

Pretty much. It sucks, my condolences, blah blah... but at least it didn't happen to Dream Theater or Tool.

Don't forget helicopters.

Are these smaller business jets inherently less safe than the Boeing/Airbus commuter craft? Obviously you can't compare the passenger-mile safety records, is there any way to fairly compare them?

I would think there is a higher correlation of coked-up and/or drunk piloting added to the equation as well.

I don't think it really happens that much.

We all know of The Day the Music Died, it was just a tragedy that so many big names were on the same plane.

I'm still working my way through the list but so far they're all small planes.

Impaired piloting in bizjets is not significantly higher. Flying into many different smaller airports is more of a problem. It takes a lot more planning to get it all right, and you may not have the time you need for it.
Flying with not enough rest, dealing directly with demanding assholes, there are a lot of pressures placed on charter pilots.
The airline crews fly to far fewer locales, and often fly the same routes for months at a time. Everything an airline crew does is very well layed out in advance, and the very few accidents airliners get into can often be attributed to something that is out of the routine and starts a chain of events that leads to the accident. The initial departure from the routine can seem quite mundane.
Regarding this accident, the airport certainly was sufficient for a learjet 60.
Information on KCAE.
The shortest runway is 8000 feet. The weather does not appear to be a factor, so it will likely be a pilot error of some sort.
The learjet 60 has enough performance to fly away from that airport with a failed engine, for example.

small planes are less safe.

i guess sometimes they are encouraged to fly in bad weather and stuff by pushy big shots or are over loaded.
