Traveling to Canada via air

Can a US legal resident (with a green card) travel to Canada without a visa?

things are kinda up in the air now, it is required by law that flights to canada require a passport as of Jan 1st 2007. It has been kinda rough though so you might be able to sneak by without it. Since you were not born in the US and have a green card I think the odds of them letting you through without a passport is low.

Everything is sorta in limbo right now and they're changing the rules because of all the passports being issued and a backlog. Chack the government websit for travel.

I believe air travel between Canada and the USA requires a passport these days, land border crossings do not yet.

IIRC, you don't need a passport to travel to Canada, but you will need one to return to the US. A lot of people who have applied for their passports have not received them due to the backlog, so the US Customs Agency is allowing people to use proof of application in place of the actual document for now.

All U.S. citizens entering Canada from a third country must have a valid passport. Alien permanent residents of the U.S. must present their Alien Registration Card, commonly called a ?Green Card.?

No, you do not need one yet. The deadline passed but things were so screwed up (HUGE backlog in the Passport system) that they have extended the date.
