Traveling to canada for a few weeks.. have a few questions

1) Will my cell phone work? It is an iphone locked to AT&T. Will it roam to another provider and I will have to pay for roaming? Or will it not work at all since it is carrier locked?

2) I will be doing some camping. Can I drive all my camping gear over the border without problems? I.e. food, lighter fluid, hunting knives, etc...

3) I assume my credit cards will work without any problem? (VISA)

Your CC will work, but you may have a foreign currency transaction fee tacked on.

Don't know about the cellphone angle, but the camping gear should be fine, and the credit care will be fine. I've taken all sorts of camping gear into the states, and knives aren't prohibited as far as I know. I'm Canadian, and have transported things both ways without issue.

Your iPhone should work on the Rogers network (since they are partnered with AT T)

Cool. Will I have to pay roaming?

You might want to see if AT&T can put you on some sort of an international plan for a month if you plan on using your phone much. International roaming charges can be quite excessive, to a point where each call you make is costing you several dollars.

1. for the love of god turn off your data stuff(email etc or the pain will be insurmountable.... Rogers are ******* *****)

2. LOL at the Candian vs US customs agents. They are like, "welcome to our great canadia, eh😀 Enjoi your stay and you have your self a great time with our women, eh😀" vs "US: boy, if you are a terrorist we will fvk you up. Are you a terrorist?"

Also, while bringing stuff into canada (including ilegal aliens... uehm... *cough*) is easy, the US agents (dicks) might not want that stuff back in😛

You can roam on Rogers. You might want to sign up for a roaming package before you go if you're going to using it a lot.

Your camping stuff should be fine, no firearms right?

VISA will also be fine.

The data usage will be $$ though.

I'll see if AT&T will let me sign up for a roaming package for just one month. No firearms. Even though I usually bring a shotgun with me when I camp...

Also, is there any reason my garmin GPS unit wouldn't work in canada? They come preloaded with maps for the whole world right?

if you have an older phone I would just put your SIM in that for the trip.

+1 and put your iphone in airline mode since it is still a cool toy to have around😀

Yeah i'll probably do that. I'll just have my SO bring her phone and we can use that. That way I don't have to worry about accidentally racking up $500 in data.

Camping gear should be fine, but you might want to be careful about the food. Depending on what you got, customs can be rather prickish about if they look through your car.
