Traveling question

I am going to be taking I-80 from Chicago IL to Pittsburgh on thursday and was wondering if anyone had any experience in this and what kind of tolls i'll be looking at. I tried searching on google but none of the information i am getting is concrete.

I drove from Baltimore to Chicago last year, but do not remember the tolls because I have an easy pass.

Why don't you just bring like $20?

Well im affraid im going to hit some crazy $40 toll or something. I know traveling the state of Florida on their turnpike from Miami to Orlando is like $30 or so bucks. So if i need to have a good amount of cash on me for the tolls i want to have it...

Driving across Indiana will run you $6. Driving across Ohio is roughly $12.

Bring lots of music, it is a boring drive.

I drove from cincinatti to chicago, one, we were rounding the southern bit of Lake Michigan and the fog was out of control. We pulled off the road to let it pass, you couldn't see more than 10 feet. Dangerous driving conditions.

So if i bring $40 worth of quarters i should be alright?

Take a few rolls of quarters, nickels, and dimes. No need to waste change, if the toll happens to be something like $0.90. 😉

The toll system in Ohio and Indiana doesn't require you to pitch change!!! You pick up a toll slip upon entering the system, and pay at the booth at the end! Bring a couple of twenties if you are really nervous.

You'll need $2.50 to get across the Skyway, unless you have an I-Pass. You'll need $0.50 to get through at toll booth in Indiana (north of Gary) prior to getting on the toll road. IIRC, you won't need change in the rest of Indiana and in Ohio. So, unless you have to toss change in PA or Pittsburgh, you should be good.

Going across Indiana and Ohio? No they don't. You pick up a toll card when you get on the toll road, and pay when you get off.

He'll need change to get out of Chicago, depending on where he is starting. Also, I don't know much about the tolls in Pittsburgh.

Like has been mentioned, in Ohio on I-80 (then I-76 if you are staying on the Ohio Turnpike) you get a ticket when you get on, and pay when you leave Ohio and enter PA. Ohio Turnpike toll calculator.

In PA, same thing. Get a ticket when you enter PA on I-76 and pay when you get off. That will only be a couple of bucks.

Do you need directions to somewhere in Pittsburgh?

There isn't another good route - i.e. not a toll road? I just went through all three states on I-70; no tolls. Do a little math; a slight change in route that'll cost you 30 minutes may save you $30 or more in tolls? I dunno, just me.

Hmmm... I just grabbed my map of Indiana (Indiana's rest areas have free maps of the state! I haven't seen that before) 80 certainly does look like the best route; I don't see any alternate routes that would even compare.

Mapquest can give me one but it puts the 7 hour drive time at 8 hours and 30 mins. I'll be driving a V8 truck...that would take a lot of tolls to even out that cost.
