Traveling for bespoke suits and whimsy

This makes sense, right?

I've got about a month off and am thinking of doing some traveling. I'd like to combine it with getting some suits custom made.

If I'm flying from New York, what travel destinations offer the best combination of interesting stuff to do and value in the sense of getting suits made?

It's a severe waste of money. Buy a nice suit and have it tailored.

Though I would imagine London is probably a good bet

Italy. of three things we can do properly, suits is n1. also shoes and pizza make the list.
I'd avoid saville row like the plague unless you want 2 look like some gayboy from an Essex rock band.

Why do you say that?

They do very good and cheap work in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Korea, and Hong Kong. My friend just got back from Korea and had 2 suits made for $550.

Unless you just happen to be going to Korea for another reason it's not that great of a deal.

Do you want a nice suit or do you want a cheap suit? I can see traveling for something really nice, but why would you travel for something cheap? I wouldn't travel for either, but you can find cheap options anywhere.

How much do you want to spend? When you said bespoke and not just custom or whatever I assumed you wanted to go big

Denzel Washington said it in American Gangster . "What are you wearing. what are you wearing!"
"It's a suit, a bad suit"
"It's not a suit, it's a costume. A clown costume"

---------------------

If you want to buy a "suit" to look cool to your buddies sure, go to london. But if you're looking to buy a suit that will stand up to its "suit duties", in occasions where you wear a suit .. go to Italy. And it's not Valentino i'm talking of, there's plenty of decent, traditional tailors in the north who will bespoke a suit for you that looks like the real deal.

And you could just hang out in tuscany drinking chianti while they are working.

Nice and cheap. In 2006, I found myself in Iraq and had four custom-made, with two pairs of pants, and of quality fabric for $150 each...

I would prefer to not go to Iraq again...

So you want to fly out of NY to buy cheap suits? Just stay there...you aren't going to find anything significantly better/cheaper if you want cheap. If you are buying cheap the quality will be about the same, only the talent and cut will be different. I'm sure you can find someone in NY

Traveling solely for the purpose of buying cheap suits is silly. Getting a couple of cheap tailored suits during a trip that you wanted to take anyways makes much more sense.

This.

I will travel anyway, but would adjust the destination if suits could be part of the attraction

hmm... cheap. five hundred bux for a suit is cheap. unless ofc you fly to india or some place of sorts. but brother, suits cost money, now more than ever. a proper bespoke will run you about five grand ... you can probably do better with fitted from a good shop in NYC, fitted suits are one grade above "off the rack" and can give great results if the shop tailor knows what he's doing .. look around you ought to be able to find for around $250/300

I've had bad luck even with fitted stuff. My proportions aren't well-suited for clothes that started their life meant to fit lots of people...

Anywhere that understands style, has a wealthy upper class, and dirt cheap labor. So cheap, that even the average household can afford a maid that cooks and cleans.

So, pretty much all of East Asia (not Japan,) India, and I'd imagine some African countries, but I haven't been there. Last I checked, in Taiwan you could get a custom suit with 2 shirts and ties for about $400 USD. Prices can go up or down depending on material selection.
