cape cod might be a good choice. it's not as hot or humid as southern florida, the harbor side of the cape has extremely gentle waters with nice gradual beaches, the sun isn't as strong, and you can take a day trip into boston.

I have some flight miles accumulated and would like to take my wife and daughter on a trip this summer. My daughter will be 1.5 years old at the time. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks for the input.

I would say a cruise......

Here are my experiences......

Took my 18 month old son to the Abacos, Bahamas. Specifically Elbow Cay. Great vacation but you need another family with you as you get around on a Boat. You need the women to watch the kids while the men anchor and dock the boat. But if you go with another family, it is a wonderful place.

There was is a beach called Tahiti Beach that is perfect for young children. There is a section of the beach that goes probably 50-100 yards out without getting more than 6-8 inches deep.

Last February, we took my 28 month old on his first cruise. He was able to participate in the kid's camps(2 and up) although he spent very little time there. We used it to go to dinner by ourselves 2 nights on the 7 day cruise. Even without the camp, it is a fun time. We went on Carnival but if you go on Disney, I believe you can take non-potty trained kids in the water with a swim diaper due to the filtration system. Carnival only allows potty trained kids in the water due to health concerns.

Here is my son on the sub-ocean excursion.

And this is my son being a tree hugger at a mayan ruins site.

Yes, at your child's age, they won't remember it. However, everything you do impacts who your child is and who they will be. At 3 years old, my son still remembers the zoo we visited. That doesn't mean he will remember in another year, but for now he remembers it.

I appreciate all the input. I understand that she will not remember the trip. The trip is really for my wife and I. As much as I am ready to go to Disney again, I think I am going to wait until she is older for that one. I'm mainly looking for a place for the 3 of us to go and relax. It will probaly end up being a beach destination of some sort. Does anyone have any good beach or resort suggestions? I've been to the panhandle of FL, but never south FL. I was think possibly Miami or Key West.

Maui is nice. My wife and I went there for 6 days a few years ago. We really enjoyed it and want to go back.

Of course, it's only a 5 hour flight from the west coast so for an east coaster it would be more like 10 hours.

Vegas!

Just kidding. I think it's funny when I go to Vegas and see all these people taking family trips there.

If your crying kid makes my flight worse than it has to be, I'm going to kick you in the man-berries so you don't produce another one.

this is the important part, leave your kid with one of your parents, they'll (most likely) love spending time with their grandchild, you and your wife get to relax and do things you couldn't if you had brought a child, and your daughter won't remember a damned thing and probably wont really notice anything.
You only get to do this when the kid is really young or well into puberty, there's going to be preciously little "husband and wife time" for the next 14ish years, you should really take advantage while you still can.
go out to a fancy resturant, go to a bar afterwards, get shitfaced, sleep in the next day and just lie around the pool hungover the rest of the day... do it now because the next time you get to do it you'll be too old for this shit :awe:

I'm not a parent, but this is what my parents told me and with over 22 years of experience in parenting and marriage I'd wager they know what they're talking about.

I have 19 years of experience marriaging and 9 years experience parenting and I concur.

Anywhere that doesn't involve an airplane.
(unless your child is the exception to the rule)

Don't be selfish. Go somewhere within driving distance or take the train.
