My wife and I are going to NYC for either an overnight or weekend stay to see a show and get some good food, etc.

I have only been to NYC twice and never stayed over so I am a bit dumb when it comes to the city.

Can anyone recommend a hotel in times square (near the major theaters) that is really nice? Budget isn't a big deal, although I'd like to keep it under $450/night.

Thanks.

I've stayed at a few major chains in the area, on business. I haven't found any to complain about, well other than the prices. 😉

You can let them know you'd like a nicer view or quieter room when you check in and see what they have to offer, may not be much but doesn't hurt to try.

Hilton just opened a new hotelby where I work, it's midtown and a great location for shopping and food. Only 10minutes walk to time square.

The Garden on 35th and 6th.

As per Trip Advisor, don't stay at any of these hotels:

# 1.Hotel Carter, New York City, New York
# 3.New York Inn, New York City, New York
# 4.Eden Roc Motel, Wildwood, New Jersey
# 9.Ramada Plaza Hotel JFK International Airport, Jamaica, New York

That's from their Top 10 Dirtiest hotels list. 😀 I took out the other ones that weren't in NY/NJ area since they wouldn't apply to your case. Take a look at some of the hotel pics from the site...some of those are truly nasty!

the hilton on avenue of the americas a couple blocks from times square was pretty nice.

granted i only stayed at a hotel once in new york (crashed with friends other times) the Affinia Dumont on 33rd was really really nice. They also have one on 50th.

Do a search on the hotel sites like hotelchatter - there have been a few nice boutique hotels that opened recently and they offer introductory rates to spread the word.

I've stayed in probably 5-6 different Times Square hotels and from what I can remember, the Renaissance is the one I like the most.
