I think NFS4 has answered your question, but let me just say good decision

The functionality of a PPC is so much greater than that of a Palm OS, I can browse the net, take notes, play mp3's, create DataBases for various uses, and manage scores on school work.
We're just now testing wireless PDA's ranging from PocketPC enabled devices to Palm, even WAP Phones and Blackberry.
Don't count Palm out. In fact, consider the functionality before jumping on the "What most people are familiar with" bandwagon. There are some significant mainline application issues regarding "Office Productivity" from spreadsheets to text documents and multimedia that you really need to compare between the OS's, and even models of PDA's. In support of
PALM. Of course, it's a little biased, but there are some very important facts admidst the back patting.
So far, you might say that I'm device agnostic. I'm working with Palm Tungsten, Handspring Treo, Ipaq PocketPC's, PocketPC Edition Smart Phones. There's no clear leader IMO. It really depends on the ease of use, types of interface, form factor, intended use, price range that you are interested in. I'm sure I'll eventually have a favorite - but right now they're all good.
By the way, my reason for responding is that I originally counted PALM out of the picture. Looking back, that would have been a big mistake to just brush PALM aside. If you don't think PALM does net, mp3's, databases etc. it's only because you've not used a current device.
As for transferring your data - the reference to Outlook previously posted is good, and as muffstah mentioned Pocket Mirror. However, if you're transferring any data fields that do not convert properly between the Outlook client or PDA, you are best off exporting the data to .csv/Excel then matching fields to the format you will be implementing and then importing the data into the application of choice. Intellisync from Pumatech does an excellent job of mapping fields and configuring custom entities. There's even some trial software available on their website though I do not know what the limitations are.
