trashed my car today

was getting ready to cross the mlk bridge to go from illinois into downtown st. louis.. traffic was flying and i thought if drove any slower i would get creamed... i had a good distance between me and the car in front of me, but the guy behind me was riding my ass and it was making nervous.. i took a peak at him behind me and just when I did that, the car in front of me slammed on its brakes.. so i hit her, not to hard, but the guy behind me slammed into me and pushed me into the car I hit... the first hit wasnt that bad.. i would have still needed a new bumper maybe, but after the second hit... this happened

Ooch, that sucks.

For future reference: if you are being tailgated, your best bet is to slow down and allow greater following distance in front of you. This seems counterintuitive, but it's helpful because that way if you have to brake, you're able to do so more slowly and therefore avoid getting rear-ended.

pretty much... my insurance will pay for teh girl I hit, then go after the other driver to try and recoup some of the cost since he contributed... then his insurance will pay for some of my damage while my insurance eats the rest

Ouch. I don't get ticked anymore when people tail me. I just switch to the other lane, praying that a cop will catch him for speeding in front of my eyes (hasn't happened, YET). I understand you had no choice in the matter but slowing down and giving yourself more room sounds like a good idea. I'll keep that in mind. :thumbsup: GL OP

i thought i had plenty of room. but what happened was the guy flew up behind me and when i checked my rear view, thats when the lady in front of me slammed on her brakes..
