well i was taking out the trash this morning when suddenly it hit me: what is the difference between trash and garbage? I mean, is there a difference at all?

Assuming there isn't, which do you prefer?

I prefer to say trash as it rolls off the tongue much easier IMO.

I use trash and garbage interchangeably, and which I pick depends on what sounds best with the rest of the sentence.

Trash = Papers, used condoms, Cup O' Noodle containers...etc

Garbage = Raw meat containers, banana peels, spoiled milk...etc

IMO.

material manifestation of excess
going to dump is like going to church
unless u got a trashman, then he might be like a wandering deacon
<.<

anyone who take their own to xfer station knows whats up
driving out of there is uplifting
an empty load
if u dont, then iu prolly dont know trash has an impact on the mind
your always thinking

winter aint so bad unless the meeces get at it
but it remains trash is a problem and its yours if u gotta bring it.

Garbage vs Trash

Garbage is the refuse which comes from the bathroom and kitchen. It is basically organic waste, clothing, food waste, food containers, paper products etc. It is picked up by different organizations like City sanitation Department or the Waste Control Department. All the household garbage and the paper products after getting picked are sent to the Waste-to-Energy Facility.

Trash is the waste which comes from anywhere but the bathroom and kitchen. It could be old furniture, leaves, twigs, grass clippings, junk and other products which might come under the category of hazardous household waste. The trash is picked up by different authorities of the city like the city itself and sometimes contractors are hired by County’s Commissioner’s office

More nuggets of wisdom from the man.
neighbor lets me use his dump trailer, that is one uplifting moment when I flip the switch.

Common usage around here:

Trash - no food or organic stuff in it. Like a cracked plastic cup.
Garbage - food waste like moldy bread

Kitchen wastebasket with a cracked plastic cup and moldy bread = garbage. Once the organic stuff is in the same bag, it's ALL garbage.

It means the same thing but it makes me think of gray vs grey, color vs colour.

Trash = "Murica
Garbage, Refuse, Rubbish = Ole' English or..prim and proper

I say trash regardless but I think of garbage as daily waste(like from the kitchen) and trash as occasional(like opened packaging)
