There are basically 4 main ways:

By networking:==
1a) By a network crossover LAN cable/Firewire LAN
1b) By home network router + LAN Cables/Wireless
====
2) By a USB memory drive (Only if your files are small enough)
3) By a USB/Firewire External HDD
4) By a USB data transfer cable (These are rare and I don't think a USB 2.0 transfer cable exisit. Plus they are clumsy and need drivers. Not recommended)

Wow don't know USB 2.0 datalink cable is out
But well the one I used requires drivers and special programs to transfer file so I don't use them at all

nevertheless a LAN would be the best solution. If LAN port is absent on either of those computers, get a USB LAN adaptor. This does the job much better because
i) USB data cable tends to need drivers
ii) Windows don't support USB LAN so that you need special software to transfer files
iii) You can do much more with LAN than plain file transfer such as printer sharing, Internet sharing

absolutely nothing beats LAN of course, but since OP asked for a USB solution, that's what I tried to bring :)

Well he just might not know about LAN :)

Plus you can get USB LAN adaptors pretty cheap and they are quite popular

the problem with a usb datacable is that they are expensive, and well if you got usb keyboards next to the usb2 cable it would go at usb 1.1.

I would personally suggest a crossover cable and get it over with.

So just change them to be in the same workgroup. That's not so hard, is it?

Also check your permissions.

Yeah that Norton Internet Security is pretty much crap. You're better off just not using IE and all your spyware problems will somehow dissapear..

Been using IE since November with SP2 + Popup Blocker and no spyware since. I've been using FF on and off too. I think certain nubs in the crowd need to learn how to use IE properly and stop crying about spyware. If you run to FF to hide from spyware, then you're clearly very stupid. I can use both and not be a fanboi. I click on whichever I feel lie clickong on. Right now I have 5 IE windows open 2 FF windows open (1 with 4 tabs), and I'm actively using both. NO problems.

What about transfering files from one desktop to another? Can I simply connect the Ethernet ports together?
