Trapped downstairs in a clients house because of defensive dog

Today I'm at a clients house working on their laptops upstairs. The home owner says she's going to go sew in another room and to holler if I need anything. So I'm wrapping it up and decide to just go find her rather than yell inside their home. They have a big yellow lab mix that I could tell was very protective when i got there. Anyways it's laying in the upstairs hallway and kinda growls when I walk by to look downstairs for the lady. I call out and realize she's probably not downstairs. On my way back up the dog has moved and is really giving me the death stare at the top of the stairs and starts to raise it's lips and growl at me. The second I would try to advance to the side it moved to block my path, lol. Nice talk wasn't changing his mind so I just waited and thankfully she appeared soon. I wasn't about to wrestle a big dog like that in his territory.

After some laughter with the lady I collected my check and got the hell out of there. I love dogs and you gotta admire some for protecting their families... but damn.

Friend of mine installs heating/AC & as soon as he sees some one has an inside dog where he's working he tells the people to put them in a room & close the door.
He's a dog lover but has has too many run ins with people dogs.

Smart dude.

As far as labs being nice, I was thinking the same. In fact I've never ran into an aggressive one. Had one growing up as a kid, too. Like I said it was a lab mix of some kind. And it was just being defensive.

Sounds like a good dog to me.

BTW-Dogs are a good judge of character. 😉

Joking aside... I'm a dog person and dogs usually love me 🙂

Maybe his/her owner just didn't trust you. Sometimes people are a poor judge of character and her dog was just picking up on that.

I was working at a house once, and the neighbors Labrador ran over and attacked me and my partner. After biting my partner a couple of times, it put 2 paws up on a picket fence to try to get to me. It took all of my self control not to grab it by the collar, and impale it on a picket. The stupid twat that owned the dog came over to collect the animal, and we didn't even get an apology. I was sorry I didn't kill the thing after that.

I'm not sure which post you were referring to as a backhanded bash

Jules is saying the owner may be a poor judge of character, and therefore did not trust the OP. The dog picked up on the owner's distrust, therefore was defensive against the OP.
How is that a backhanded bash? Jule's previous post was jokingly bashing... hence the wink.
