transporting 800mb file

going to setup a friends wireless network and i wanted to bring him a very large file i have.

first thought is i would rar it and it would compress smaller then 700mb and fit on a cd but no go.
2. dvd burning is not an option because my dvd burner isnt insalled and i dont feel like installing it 🙂
3. tried uploading to gmail but i woke up this AM and the file still wasnt uploaded.


how can i archive one rar into many rars? is there an option somewhere im not seeing?

i was going to just put it on my laptop and map the network drives after i setup the network and transfer it that way

any other ideas ?

there are file splitting programs everywhere. One I used to use was JLC Splitit 95. Zip the file, then split it. Burn onto 2 CDRs. You put the split-files into 1 dir on the target machine and run the batch file to return it back to normal.

GMail only takes up to 10MB attachments I believe.
 
Just use WinRAR to split it, use the "store" method to save time.


Instructions: Right Click the file and Choose "add to archive" from WinRAR's options. Then choose Rar and then Change the compression from normal to Store if you are in a hurry. The choose "split the volumes, bytes", select 650 or 700 MB CD. Check the box for "put recovery record" click the advanced tab and change the "recovery record" to 3% or so, then click OK.

Time: 7 minutes on a AMD K6 for a 720 meg ISO, should be a lot faster on a good machine.
 
Also, the reason that uploading to Gmail didn't work is because I think they have a 10mb limit on attachements.
