Transplanting a GPU cooler

So my attempt at baking my malfunctioning 7870 failed. I mentioned this in the other thread, but I thought to pose the question in a new thread: the cooler for the 7870 looks perfectly functional. It's a nice dual fan Asus DirectCU II cooler. I have a working Radeon HD 5770, which my brother uses now. Its cooler is kind of lame, an old single fan "CuCore" cooler. I was wondering if there would be any benefit, or risk, to transferring the 7870's cooler to the 5770. Should it work?
