Transmission Problem: seal broken; tranny leaks

Seemed a tad high to me, but maybe it's because I just wasn't expecting $500 as an estimate due to labor.

Is it really a job that should be so expensive? I'll be talking to a couple more places tomorrow, but I got off late and only had time to take it to one shop this afternoon; it's my grandmother-in-laws 91 taurus wagon.

Is there any product similar to Stop Leak for radiators that could help? She doesn't have that much money, and I sure as hell don't either; but she does need to have her car repaired.

meh, I hope my wife doesn't end up having to ferry her around because of this :/

Input seal? Oilpan gasket? output seals? i guess there is 2 seals between the tranny and the diff too, assuming AT.

but.. any one of those seals is worth <$10.

Go to car parts store, buy a chilton or haynes manual for that car, the gasket set, and a case of trans oil. set aside a few hours on a day off, and get to town. It shouldn't take but an hr or 2.
