Translate English to Chinese

Anyone know of something other than BabelFish that I can use to do the translation?

a person is the best way... i don't think there is any reliable software to translate more than single words or phrases. it's just too different.

Mine dosen't list Chinese.

I found one on IBM's site. Link All it did was change the font. It was still in english.

cool... i've been wondering about a site that can translate english to chinese and/or vice versa. can someone post a link? i remember a few months back, someone posted a link, but seem the AT search funstion isn't turning up much.

Make sure you have the Chinese fonts on your machine. I downloaded mine from the Windows update site.

I was able to and paste it into Outlook Express.

So it appeared like &Auml;&atilde;&Ocirc;&otilde;&Atilde;´&Ntilde;&ugrave;? Well, what happens is Chinese GB encoding (and Big5 I think) use two funky symbols per Chinese word. To decode into the actual characters, you need NJWin CJK (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) Viewer It's shareware.

I think MSIE 6 also has the ability to decode GB and Big5 Chinese encoding....my browser does, but that's probably cuz I added the support for Chinese.

That is what it looks like in the browser (MSIE 6) to me. It didn't look like that when I copied it.

The "romanization" of Mandarin Chinese (using western alphabetic characters) is called Pin Yin. Go to a search engine, such as Google, and enter "Pin Yin" (in quotes). You'll get a lot of links to translation sites that are essentially the equiavalent of the Babelfish, as well as other good info. 🙂

I = Wo
like = shi huan
dont like = bu shi huan
ought to = yin gai
must = bi shi

Actually, Taiwan has its own language, neither Mandarin nor Cantonese, but you'll probably find a number of Mandarin speakers.

For me, Pin Yin isn't for writing as much as it is for learning to speak Mandarin. I've made some nice friends, just because I knew a few words. It's also gotten me some extra special service in a few Chinese restraurants. 🙂

I believe in Taiwan many people understand mandarin and they use traditional
characters. I wouldn't recommend using an online translator like Babelfish (to see why, translate something
into chinese and then back into english).

I am lucky. I speak and read and write chinese. Don't read and write very well though. I've pretty much mastered the language.

Then again, i'm half Chinese.

Why don't you PM andy hui? Hongkong uses the same written charachters as taiwan. Just incase your wondering, Taiwan has it's own *dialect* but word for word it's identical to Mandarin.
