Man, my bro bought the entire collection except for Ultra Magnus. And I'm starting to get back into the toy frenzy that I was in when I was a young lad. (I'm currently 24)

Yup... I've got the Japanese re-issues. Great stuff. I'll put up a pic later.

The recent US re-issues have been "doctored" a bit for "safety".

What do you mean "doctored" for "safety"? The reissues have "Commemorative Collection I, II, III, IV, V, etc.." on them. Does this mean the actual toys are different or just the writing on the boxes?

I still have my original Blur, lost Blaster a long time ago.. I think i had one more original transformer back in the day (yeah, i didn't have many toys and this was my biggest collection)... good thing i have a high credit limit, time to do some shopping!

so which places can you buy/order the G1 re-issues and where for the Japan versions?

The toys themselves.

Certain changes have been made to the molds for the US versions, and they use plastic parts where they are die-cast on the Japanese version. The JP version is an original Diaclone mold (the line of toys before HASBRO brought Transformers to the US).

Optimus Prime with Apex Armor was never released in the regular line in the US. The others, such as Skywarp, have had their missiles lengthened, while others have had various modifications, such as Prowl's feet/back windows.

Was Optimus Prime the fire truck? Man I remember I used to have the fire truck guy, with a detachable snap in head - god I loved that thing. I wish I knew what happened to it though - I still have a collection of He-Man action figures, Thundercats, and some TMNT, and I always thought it was weird that I guess my parents donated the Transformer but not my other stuff. I missed that toy :(

Is it my imagination, or has the Decepticon jets been shrunk down a little?

I don't think I have any of the originals left to compare. I have both Skywarp (US Commemorative Reissue) and StarScream Japanese Collection reissue with the DVD and Megatron hand-gun, and there doesn't seem to be any size difference.
