Transfering E-mails from PC to Mac

Ok so I am a huge fan of Thunderbird, it has been a really great program for me and thus I have stuck with it. However I am currently going to be changing from a Windows Laptop to a MacBook. I want to use Thunderbird and was wondering if it is easy transferring the e-mails over and if there was some sort of clean way to do this? Anyone have any ideas?

Should be able to just copy the profile over, mail is stored in the same box format on all systems, although I haven't tried it myself.

So your reccomending just taking a copy of the whole Thunderbird folder from PC and bringing it to the Mac? or is it more specific then that?

That should work, not only for E-mails but also for contacs...at least it worked when I tried it going from Windows to Xubuntu 🙂

Ok well I tried taking my windows profile and putting it in OSX but I am not getting results. Is there a file in the folder I should be replacing or just one file? Thanks!

It should be something like:

Documents and Settings\*accountname*\Program Files\Thunderbird\Profiles\*profilename*\Mail

and then copy the 'Mail' folder to the equivalent OSX location; that's where the inbox files are.

but It'd maybe be better to copy the whole *profilename* folder (which is a random string of characters for each profile I think or at least looks like one) to the same location in OSX like Nothingman said.

Where'd you put it on the mac? Should be in ~/Library/Thunderbird/

Copy the profile directory to "Macintosh HD" and then start your fresh installation of Thunderbird. I'm sure there's an "Import..." option somewhere in the menus or maybe even a step by step assistant.
