can i transfer my operating system to another hdd with out reinstalling it? i have to replace mine

gigabyte mobo 2 dvd drives

2 gig memory
3.33 intel cpu

That's a lot of what imaging is all about.

what is the old HD.and the new one.my opinion a fresh install is always better.but yes you can clone the old hd.

the old hdd is wd800 the new one is wd1600js.i'd rather do a fresh install but microsoft is telling me i've used it to much i think it's a load of krap but all there doing is trying to make me buy a new copy.

If you have a restore disk, and all you change is the hard disk, yes, I have done that several times. You will lose all your data though, so be careful. It is possible to clone the contents of the hard drive to another one, but I would defer to others about how to do this.

If you are building a new computer and/or replacing the motherboard, you will need to get a new windows license.

What OS are you trying to re-use? From the specs, it looks like your computer could be fairly old. If it is xp, I would just update to Win 7 anyway, as xp will no longer be supported in 2014.
