in what directory/file on the c: drive should these be placed? also, is it simply a matter of copying *.cab from the win98 cd to the directory on the c: drive? finally, i have a friend that has the whole win98 cd transferred onto his hdd. is this standard procedure and, again, where should it go? thankz

When I transfered the cab files to my windows box way back when I just put them in c:\cabs. But I do not think the location is important as long as you remember the path to the location. I dont know much about transfering the cd to disk, the cab files should be fine.

I think you mostly just need to transfer the win98 subdir from the cd -- at least, that is what I did. What you call it doesn't matter, but I suppose the easiest strategy is just to open the cd, click on the win98 folder, click copy, then go to your hd, and click paste. Anyway, that is what I did, and it does make things a lot easier whenever you are asked to insert the win98 disk.

Also, I put it on d: rather than c: -- this might make things a little easier if you are ever reinstalling the system from stratch and have to wipe out c: first.

Yes, you want to copy all of the files in the win98 directory on your CD into a directory on your hard disk. I use either win98 or wincabs as the directory name. It's up to you whether you want to copy the files in the directories below win98 on the CD. The easiest way is (Using Windows Explorer) to just right-click on win98 on the CD and drag it to wherever you want it, drop it and select Copy from the menu that pops up.
