How so?

A private company has the right to determine what is said under its auspices does it not?

oh sure, and they have the right to just ditch people for having an opinion without any respect to that fact as well, and they could draw little pictures of them to make them look like monkeys with funny little yellow hats for that matter; but that was not my point at all. i am not sure where the concept of the good thing do do got overshadowed by laws in so many people today, but it would do good to show some respect for the former as well as the latter. :disgust:

"The good thing"

Perhaps in the mind of the Cooperstown person the "good thing" was to not let politics get involved in a non-political event. Perhaps letting Robbins spout his views at a baseball event was not a "good thing" to do. Perhaps he just wanted a nice day to celebrate the sport of baseball.

But then to the liberals if their agenda is not adhered to then it's not a "good thing" now is it?

I'm just simply going to avoid the flames and just say it was a great speech by Tim.

He makes really good point about Hollywood being a easy target for others too. Definitely worth a read.

Bush had a chance to do some good after 9/11, but completely f*cked it up by saying stupid sh!t like go shop if you love our country, either you are with us or you are with the terrorists, and the terroists hate us because of our freedom. What a complete f*ck up.

Exactly, if we would just do what the terrorists want us to do they wouldn't have to fly planes into our skyscrapers.

No, I supported military action in Afghanistan, but Bush's black and white approach to things is retarded. It's not that simple, and like any great demagogue, he played on people's fears to get their support. You think Iraq would have been invaded if 9/11 didn't happen? Oh I'm sure Bush may have wanted this for a long time, but he wouldn't have gotten it. But like any average scumbag polititian, he is oportunistic and he played the aftermath of 9/11 to his full advantage. After all, if you weren't with him, you were against him.

Bush using 9/11 as an excuse? linky and linky Seems to me that those were in 2000. Guess Iraq wasn't just sitting "idle" all these years - they were trying to shoot down our planes.
Actually, if anything 9/11 gave Saddam some time to breathe since we were focused on OBL.

CkG

by using 9/11 as an excuse I meant that he used the whole war on terrorism to gain support against Iraq, even though it had nothing to do with 9/11.

Exactly, ShrubCo use the simplistic approach to get the things done that he wants. Use a tragedy like 9/11 to get support for an invasion of Iraq, call it "Iraqi Freedom" so people will feel better about it, bribe the public to get elected for $330 a piece, use 9/11 again to get legislation passed that is the biggest infringement on American Freedom in a long long time....but call it the "Patriot Act" to fool the masses into believing it's good.

Sure the Patriot Act was thinly veiled attempt at more gov't control of us - I'm not a fan of it;) But to assume that 9/11 was an excuse is rather narrow sighted. There were alot of factors involved and when you put all the pieces together, taking Saddam out was the right decision. WMD on it's own might not be justification for WAR but when coupled with UN resolution defiance(12 years), the humanitarian "crisis", and possible(probable) ties to "terrorists" - I think war was justified.

Ofcourse none of those were "real" reasons since we all know that Bush and Cheney want to take over the world's Oil

Edit - for Flavio's edit ;) - Yeah that whole "Axis of Evil" was a tad over the top - even for a "blind neo-conservative hawk" such as myself ;)

Heh, it's all over the top. Regardless of how you may feel about the actual issues, you have to be a at least a little annoyed at the marketing names.

Haha, you have to give them an A for effort in creativity, I can imagine four old guys sitting in a room all day coming up with names for these things.

Yeah right, like Baseball is the sole domain for Neo Neanderthals that can't handle opinions different than theirs. That fsck who politicized BHOF by canceling the BD event should be fired

Exactly right. The terrorists hated us for our freedoms and our prosperity and our carefree culture; they wanted us to live in fear. Since 9/11, Bush-lite and his merry band of scoundrels have done everything they can to take away our freedoms, to drive our economy into the ground, and to keep us afraid. Bush must be bin Laden's wet dream; OBL could never have hoped to hurt this country as much as Bush has.

So you're right. They don't need to fly any more planes into our skyscrapers - Bush has taken charge of domestic terrorism.

He has also made sure another attack has not happened on our soil, when was the last time
Al-Queeda struck an American target here or overseas?

No Flavio, I have an open mind, show me a fact that proves my opinion wrong, I won't deny the truth like some of those here.....;)

Gaard the average steel workers opinion is more valid because it is more representative of the majority of Americans, he lives a lifestyle outside the realm of normal society. Is his equally valid, I suppose, but he is still only an actor, do you even know his level of education? What qualifies him or his opinion as any more important or insightfull than the next persons? Nothing, hence at least by asking someone who represents the more average lifestyle and attitude of americans you get a position which is consistent with what 70% of this country feels.

He is an actor, his knowledge of the situation can be no greater than yours or mine.

Oh yeah? You're going to spout off a bunch of opnions on a transcript you haven't even read and try amd say you're open minded?

Not likely.

I never commented on the transcript itself, who has the reading problem. I didn't dispute his position or opinion, I just stated I felt his perspective was not all that critical to me personally, which is why I did not read the speech. If I want to hear a dissenting opinion there are many others I would listen to first, some of them right here.

He is one American, just like a steel worker. He's exactly equal to a steel worker. If you would listen to one, there's no logical reason to not listen to the other. His level of education has no relevance whatsoever. Would one ignore Einstein's theories because of what his job was or his grades? Truth is truth, no matter who it comes from. The only thing that matters is if the ideas presented stand up under scrutiny, not the job or education level of the person who presented the ideas. That's the very definition of ad hominem, arguing against the person instead of the idea.

Your comment that it wasn't worthwhile to read what he said simply because he lives a different life is very ironic considering you also called him myopic. Dismissing someone's point of view who disagrees with you, prior to actually finding out what that point of view is, would be a better definition of myopic.

Nothing qualifies him as more important or more insightful. That's why you actually read what he says and decide if what he said is insightful. You can say his lifestyle isn't the same as most Americans, but you have no basis to say his attitude doesn't reflect average Americans. Additionally, why would you want to only hear what 70% of the country feels? Since when was a majority evidence of being right?
