i would not buy a trampoline, nor go on one, after seeing a spiral femur fracture on a 10 year old girl. her femur compressed while she hit the trampoline (on the jump landing) as her friend was returning the trampoline back from the lowered position....bad timing for her. she needed morphine and traction.
no thanks.

yuck.

They're not that dangerous if you do it right... if you're coming down while another person is on their way up, you just gotta use your knees to absorb the impact. If you have your knees locked, well that's just dumb.

When you have a bunch of kids goofing off on a trampoline, things line that are bound to happen.

get one with the safety netting that goes around it. and never let kids play unsupervised.

 easier said then done. You tell me how to supervise 4 kids - all with different interests - with 2 parents.

Some of you people need to get with reality and understand accidents happen and you just can't avoid all of them. I refuse to put my kids in a cocoon of "safety".

You can't. You do the best you can and let them learn. Just like a job, driving, women - you only learn by doing.

hmmm..it is law here for kids to wear a helmet while on bikes.

this actually the law almost everywhere ... and cpa, if you really don't make your kids wear helmets on their bikes, the stupid one around here is you!

i played on a trampoline when i was a kid and the worst thing that happened to me was i ended up kneeing myself in the teeth, barely any blood and after i quit bleeding i kept playing on it

my 12yo nephew broke his hip playing on one in his own back yard

you never know what's going to happen, but if you want one get one and good luck w/ the insurance

Just about every adult living in this country today didn't wear helmets on bikes. That's a relatively new law (last 15 years) pushed by the "PC/safety" police.

I don't know about you, but I didn't see all my friends dropping like flies because they weren't wearing helmets. This is just a sickening trend that makes society softer and weaker.

When I was little, playgrounds weren't padded and you could hurt yourself if you were a clumsy idiot. It made kids be more careful and more coordinated. Now everything's nerf'd so you can't hurt yourself doing anything. And look at the state of health and society today.

I played on one for years and never got hurt (well not that bad, flew off a couple times, nothing but bruises and scrapes) so they are obviously 100% safe.

in many areas, you have to have special homeowner's coverage if you have a trampoline. ask your insurance company if it's required.

too risky for us.

yeah I was specifically asked if I had a trampoline and what kinds of dogs I had.

I sprained my knee on our trampoline, which is the worst thing i've heard of around here...and was partially because of a previous medical condition. I once had a 3 year old girl go flying off in completely the wrong direction..she smacked right onto the ground, and she cried a bit and she was fine.

I think most trampoline worries are overblown, but of course, really bad accidents can happen.

lol......let's see all the ways I am stupid and a bad parent - aka being politically incorrect with my kids:

1) I don't make them wear a helmet
2) I let them shoot off fireworks (with me around only)
3) I let them watch some rated R movies
4) I let them watch me play violent video games
5) I let them ride dirtbikes (though they do wear helmets)
6) I let them stand at the corner waiting for the bus in the mornings
7) Occasionally, I let my 11 (almost 12) year old son stay home alone
8) I make my 11 year old son mow our yard using our riding lawnmower - ooh, with no helmet either
9) I let the kids jump on a trampoline with not net
10) I push my kids to learn to swim without floaties
11) I do NOT supervise every time they play.

Oh no, call Child Protective Services. Oh no, how did I make it out of childhood when I did the same thing? Oh no, my kids are going to DIEEEEEEEEE! Oh, the horrors of being a bad parent.

lol, thanks for injecting some humor hear. don't know wtf it is with all these "don't keep your kid in a plastic bubble" folks when all i asked about was legal liability - obviously a lot of people feel very defensive about their foolish personal decisions.

most of the accidents happen to adults who are acting like complete morons on them, ie jumping off of a roof onto one.

ah, yes, this is what i love about atot - people making wild and random claims about subjects they know little or nothing about, and have no way of backing up their claims.

i should have known better than to ask an intelligent question in here. get what you pay for, right?!

that comment wasn't meant for you, it was meant for the one who whined about having a trampoline. As I stated initially, a waiver probably won't do you any good. The best thing would be not to let other kids on it. I don't have any issue with that.

There have always been accidents. There are always been idiots.

With today's padded America, we're making sure that nobody can get hurt. But what we don't realize is that when you make something harder to screw up, nature just creates a better idiot. We're breeding a race of super-victims in the US that are naive of the real dangers in life. They don't know how to climb on things without steps and guardrails, they don't know how to not hurt themselves without seeing warning labels.

That's why it doesn't surprise me to see products of this environment falling off mountains when they go camping, falling off the roof of parking garages while trying to jump to the next, jumping into pools filled with killer whales, crashing their bikes, crashing their cars, running their kids over with their SUV's, etc. They grew up in a world where everything was made so inoffensive and safe that they don't know how to handle the dangers of the real world.

okay, let me rephrase for your heinous:

What's better are the adults who end up getting hurt on them because they are acting like complete morons - ie jumping off of a roof onto one.

i work for a very well known ins carrier in MI. as far as i know and have been taught, they cannot increase your rates JUST because you have a trampoline. YOU should call and increase your liability on your homeowners insurance incase someone does sue you.

I have also not heard of cancelling policies just because someone has a trampoline.

Call your agent and ask them. Liability is fairly inexpensive to increase and it is very worth it when you think how sue-happy people are nowadays.

If you have anymore insurance related questions, i wuold be happy to find out the answers for you if i do not know them.

a couple of houses over, a neighbor bought a trampoline for his daughter. She and her friends go out there all the time and jump around. Their lot is right next to a fairly busy road. Judging by the number of truckers that drive by and honk/whistle, they must be old enough to have some "bouncy parts". I can't see them through the hedge, but they sound like jailbait.

You should see my wife when she starts jumping on ours! :Q
