Tramadol and Bourbon

so what's a good amount of bourbon to take with 50mg Tramadol?

Have an ear infection, swollen shut. Had to see a new doc, who prescribed tramadol instead of hydrocodone or oxycodone like my regular doc would. As I thought, taking two barely touches the pain, and even then only for about an hour.

So I've been taking one every two hours or so, which still isnt' doing it. The last one about 45 minutes ago I tried with a couple of shots of bourbon, and may I say HUGE improvement. Plastered as shjt, pain is GONE.

thoughts/ recommendations? Besides don't do this/ this is unsafe...been in pain for three days, IDGAF anymore

Are you trying to find out how much is needed where you only get seizures and possible brain damage, or are you looking for a dirt nap?

yeah, about two shots short of that should be the sweet spot 😀

Wouldn't it be more better to see a doctor who treated the infection?
I meant I had to see a new doc when it started, my regular guy is on some trip/vacation.

Went back this morning, he gave me a prednisone injection. All is well. 🙂

Did you get an antibiotic at any point? Cause so far all you've treated the infection with is narcotic pain meds, alcohol and steroids. Nothing that you know actually kills the infection -assuming it's a bacterial infection.

It's worse than that; while the steroid might open the ear canal, it also suppresses the immune system. I guess he could use a syringe to shoot the bourbon into the ear canal and kill the bacteria.

i am guessing the oral cipro and ciprodex drops I'm also taking will take care of that, although the culture they took to confirm the infection is pseudomonas won't be back for another day or so. So that may change.

If you're on antibiotics, you shouldn't be drinking 🙁

Assuming you are taking amoxicillin, which is what I an taking now for an ear infection as well it appears to be OK, in moderation.

Yes, you can drink alcohol while taking the antibiotic amoxicillin. The alcohol will not stop amoxicillin from working. Moderation is key.

However, many health professionals will recommend you avoid alcohol to give your body the best chance possible to fight the infection.

There are certain antibiotics where alcohol must be avoided such as Metronidazole, Tinidazole and Bactrim because the combination may result in a severe reaction. Drinking any amount of alcohol with these medications can result in side effects such as flushing, headache, nausea and vomiting, and rapid heart rate.

There are no such side effects issues when alcohol is taken with amoxicillin.

With what i read about tramadol, i am amazed you even dare to use alcohol with it. But i can imagine that your ear hurts a lot to take that risk. I would not though...

I'm a little older than college age (OK, a lot older) but live in a college town and frequent a few bars where I seldom see anyone much over 35. It never ceases to amaze me the mix of pills that people eat and then throw alcohol on top of them. I've seen some crazy things, like people who go from stone sober to nearly unconscious human noodles in the span of 20 minutes. I've also known at least three young people, all under 30, who have died as the result of mixing pills and alcohol. Fucking insane.

It sure is insane.

I know its OTC and not "fancy" like narcotics and booze, but how about taking a couple Ibuprofens? They might help to dull the pain and reduce the inflammation which would further reduce the pain. Also, dont overdose on tramadol. Gotta go easy on that shit dude.
