I'm always looking for a way to squeeze more of my workouts in the limited time I have. These are 2 things I'm pondering over

http://www.trainingmask.com
http://www.o2trainer.com

There's not a ton of solid info on either, and what I am finding it seems are 50/50 saying the exact opposite. I'm almost ready to get the Training Mask just becuase I'd look crazy if I was running down the block with it + my hoodie on lol. I know about training at altitude. But some doctors seem to be on the fence about devices that simulate it because your body's only subjected to it for short periods of time. Where living/training at actual altitude gives you the constant exposure yo need to really benefit. I love Bas, and watching his videos about his o2 Trainer I can't help but wonder if this device is as good as he claims.

Can I ask how old you are, lol? I'm not too old, but I'm no spring chicken anymore at 40. I'm not training for MMA, but I'm still really competitive. I still play in a couple hoop leagues, indoor and outdoor soccer leagues, running, ex-triathlete, etc. As you know, many Triathletes are ultra competitive, and self-absorbed, punish your body to the max, narcissistic, etc. I consider myself pretty gung ho (sp?) and I'd feel awfully silly wearing either one of those out in public. I suppose if it works, but..... *does* it work?

I'm 37, I jog like at 1AM so how I how I look doesn't matter as I never see anyone. I think the Bas Rutten one looks goofy and the Training Mask looks kind of evil. I'm sort of worried if I got the Training Mask and had my BT headphones on + my hoodie up somebody might see me out jogging at 1AM and yell at me. But since I'll have my music blaring I won't hear them, and maybe I'll get shot or something lol.

Looks aside I'm wondering about the actual effectiveness of them.

There's no way I'd spend my money on those gimmicks. All I can think about when I looked at those products is shakeweight...

They work well for fighters anyway. I know a few pro mma guys that use them on a regular basis and they swear by them. I've never used on, I'm to damn big to worry about cardio...

I do cardio like there's no fvcking tomorrow and I can't imagine those things being of any benefit whatsoever... But hey, maybe I'm wrong.

Reminds me of this story last week:

San Jose police: Man who caused post office shutdown was jogger in unusual gear
Word to the wise: Maybe it's not the smartest thing to jog in what looks like a gas mask and body armor, and then jam a package in a post office box.
It could touch off what happened Tuesday at the busy San Jose post office on Lundy Avenue: a full-scale police response, complete with the bomb squad and a robot.

The way I see this product is typically like breathing through a straw. In most people, the respiratory system is not the limiting factor when it comes to exercise - it's the metabolism of the rest of the body. If this just increases the muscular effort it takes to breath, it's just setting people up for use of their secondary respiratory musculature, which puts them at risk for things like thoracic outlet syndrome. Unless you have a hypobaric chamber to train in, don't waste your money.
