One person was killed Wednesday evening when a ride malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair, Ohio State Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. Paul A. Pride said. Seven other people were injured, three of whom are in critical condition.

Somebody did not tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification as per the assembly manual. Oops.

Seriously though that sucks.

I'm actually surprised at the stuff YT is allowing lately actually. I guess as long as it's not copyrighted they don't care. Not that I'm complaining though, I hate censorship. Hiding stuff does not stop the fact that it happened. There's one floating around of a girl getting her head smashed open in a car accident because of a bad driver.

year 2017 n people still record in vertical format. if only phone manufacturer disable the camera recording when in vertical. i think CM 14 did that.
anywho, cant see what actually happened.

Wow that is awful. A place that is supposed to be just a fun time for families ends up in an accident like that 🙁

I would never ever go on a "portable" ride of that magnitude at a fair.

^ exactly, for mobile fairs. The ones where you're sitting in a booth-like seat that go fast in a circle is about the limit I'd let my kids do. Way up in the air and fast, never.

2 people fell the equivalent of 2 stories almost head first.

Imagine being a rider on the opposite side of the ride, just waiting for your seat to come flying apart before the ride can stop. Anyway this will have no impact on my decision to ride stuff. It concerns me just as much as lightning or tornados, not at all.

I've gotten to the point that people complaining about vertical video are about as annoying as grammar nazis and political people. STFU no one cares. Thanks.

For me it's all about framing the shot. If your subject is a tree, then shoot vertical. If your subject is a wider field of view, then you hoot horizontal. I think most people just hold their phone vertical because that's how they normally hold it and give no thought whatsoever to how their video or photos will look to the viewer.

Anyway, this is pretty horrific. I haven't been to a fair in decades and this generally just reinforces my dislike of them.

Yeah, I bet that would be worse than being one of the people who's seat did come flying apart...

Holy fuck guys. They just witnessed a horrific accident. and you want them to be thinking about horizontal vs vertical video orientation? JFC

That is pretty insane...but the reality is that amusement park injuries and deaths are very very rare. Doesn't help the families of the people involved, but no reason to stop riding them.

IMO, amusement parks are quite different than county fairs when it comes to rides. I'd trust pretty much 100% of rides at an amusement park.

I also don't consider them comparable, but I get his point - In spite of the inherent differences between a permanently installed attraction and a portable one they both not particularly likely to kill you.

Still doesn't mean I will ride the portable variety.

The problem is these people only watch their own videos on their phone, which is why they don't realize vertical video is a problem.

It's really about trusting the guys who throw together and/or inspect MANY these contraptions together at once vs. an established location. Would you equally trust and ride in a car that workers throw together and take apart repeatedly vs. a car that's been in constant service?
