Just came back from the theatre. I have to say I think this movie will win at least one Oscar, be it best picture, best director Steven Soderbergh, or best performance...maybe Benicio Del Toro or Don Cheadle. Excellent movie.
I think it will be vying for best director/picture with Steven Soderbergh's other film of this year, Erin Brockovich (which I personally didn't like much, but it's definately Academy material). Traffic reminded me of movies like Gimme Shelter and Alice's Restaurant that are an objective, yet raw and uncompromising (eek, I sound like Roger Ebert
) look at the times.
Everyone for drug-decriminalization out there should definately see this movie, the weaving of several separate plots together as one to give you a unique view on the power and, often, the futility, of the war against drugs will make you smile and nod in agreement.
/me gets off his soapbox, but leaves a sticky note to remind you to go pay $7.50
