Trader Joes

Is pretty cool, went to one for the first time today.

You-all have any favorite Trader Joes branded stuff?

I snagged some coffee and cheap wine, nuts and a couple of different rices...

They used to have this amazing horseradish cheese spread. It went well with their everything crackers. Sadly they dont carry it anymore.

Their pink lemonade is good, though it is a bit on the sweet side. I tend to water it down, maybe 2/3 lemonade to 1/3 water.

Their mandarin chicken (in the frozen section) is an easy but tasty dinner.

they used to be better than they are. i LOOOOVE their carne asada tri-tip steak.

whole foods > trader joes

some of their stuff is actually reasonably priced... some other stuff is laughably priced, though.

I love shopping there, but beware sometimes their products are very inconsistent. The pizza sauce I normally got was one day loaded with so much oregano I couldn't eat it. Sometimes I buy the boxes of pad thai and the noodles are a dry crumbly mess.

chicken burritos
italian pizzas
nut and berry trail mix
jo jo's
mochi ice cream
salsa chips
chewy chocolate chip cookies

etc etc etc

majority of their stuff is priced well, much less than Whole Foods. curious what stuff you consider laughably overpriced at TJs.

don't buy their packaged salmon... it's almost always bad. when you get it out of the package, it smells like fish (which it shouldn't) and it's a little too slimy (which it shouldn't be).

that comment was actually about whole foods, not trader joe's.

to clarify:
whole foods is better than trader joes. whole foods has some pretty decent prices on some things, but absolutely ridiculous prices on others.

trader joe's is all-around pretty decently priced.

Fun fact: Trader joes is owned by two two same German billionaire brothers that own... ALDI.

This. Aldi is like a watered down Trader Joe's. In the end, I do some of my shopping at both stores. Aldi's can vary in their clientele, so you have to find one in a nicer area.

you have to deposit a quarter in order to get a damn grocery cart... and they don't have the stuff you want at aldi's... and their produce is crap.

i won't go to aldi's ever again.

Umm, you get the quarter back. Aside from that I don't buy their produce or their meat, but the cottage cheese, milk products, breads, special deals (Campell's Firehouse Chili a month ago) and several other things like the Dorito's knock-offs are fantastic. Ice cream bars and a few other things make the trip worthwhile as well....
