I'm not sure I've ever seen a Trader Joe's. Definitely couldn't have told you it was named after a real person.

Interesting...

They claim his vision was a cheap health food store.

I came in here to gripe about how overpriced and bad their stores are.

Didn't know that dude was alive, or even real.
Figured it was something like Betty Crocker, a made up brand image.

Can't read it all right now, but 89 years is a decent run.

It's like a smaller, more hippie Whole Foods. They have some legit good stuff tho:

1. Frozen mini croissants: Comes in an 8-pack. You thaw it out the night before & then bake it. The best croissants available stateside imo. These are not the kind you make a breakfast sandwich out of....just a bit of butter or just eat them straight up & they disappear like cotton candy in your mouth!

2. Strawberry rose jam: Normally I don't like rose anything, but this jam is my jam! Just stupid good. I put it on these homemade English muffins.

3. Sweetened dried mango: This comes in 3 flavors - unsweetened, sweetened, and chili. The sweetened is amaaaaaazing!

I just had their Philly cheesesteak bao buns the other day, pretty yummy!

I liked their stores, but yeah, overpriced like Whole Foods. On a tangent, I've been to several locations & they all have a really weird funky smell to them.

I think it's funny that organic foods cost more, when they do less to them...

I also didn't know there was an actual person behind the name, I always just thought it was a marketing thing. RIP delicious food man!

I like the stores, but all the ones near me are in congested areas, and I don't like being around people. Too far away to make an early morning run. I've only been a couple times, but I didn't think their prices were high. It's a step up in quality over a good grocery store, at the same price.

the closest one to me is in Charlotte, about 30 or so miles from home, if not more. just too far for a quick trip to the store.

Some of it is overpriced, but it's pretty much all good stuff. I like their peanut butter filled pretzels, and their semi-sweet chocolate chunks are perfect for making chocolate chip cookies.

Trader Joe's is basically a nicer Aldi. I love shopping at both and lucky to have the stores like a mile from my house. Both stores have great snacks.

Theres one < 1 mile away. It's a okay place like Whole Foods. You can find items there nobody else sells, maybe they are house brands.

Trader Joe’s is a wine store that sells party food.

Yeah pretty much this.

I've been in a few times and besides being really expensive it seemed like I could never find any food.
Couldn't really figure it out, but I think you nailed it.
A booze/snack store for the drunken party crowd they were targeting (under the guise of health food).

I've never had the luxury of so much money I could throw it away on "premium" junk food.
Hell most of the time I can't even afford regular food (haven't bought groceries once yet in 2020)
