Well, did it this Saturday. Traded in my PS2, along with eight games for an Xbox system.
Why? Simple, I beat the one game I bought the PS2 for -- Metal Gear Solid 2. After finally beating it (not completing the all the mini games, just for the story), there was nothing left on the PS2 for me, so it went off to the local game store for store credit towards an Xbox. After I left the store, I came home with the Xbox bundle (good deal for $199 compared to existing PS2), High AV pack (gotta have Svideo), Metal Gear Solid 2 (now I get all the mini games + VR), and Splinter Cell (the reason why I wanted the Xbox in the first place).
So far, my Xbox impressions are quite good. The system boots faster than the PS2 AND I don't have to hit the silly reset button to turn it on (oh how annoying that was). As far games, I compared MGS2 for PS2 and Xbox. Between the two, the graphics are quite similar (haven't completed it again on Xbox, but did run through some VRs), but the sound is MUCHO better. With my Dolby Digital receiver, I hated playing the PS2 with plain Dolby Pro Logic Sound. All my Xbox titles are all Dolby Digital at all times, which makes a real difference in games like Splinter Cell and in MGS2 (when I don't have the radar).
