Traded the PS2 for an Xbox

Well, did it this Saturday. Traded in my PS2, along with eight games for an Xbox system.

Why? Simple, I beat the one game I bought the PS2 for -- Metal Gear Solid 2. After finally beating it (not completing the all the mini games, just for the story), there was nothing left on the PS2 for me, so it went off to the local game store for store credit towards an Xbox. After I left the store, I came home with the Xbox bundle (good deal for $199 compared to existing PS2), High AV pack (gotta have Svideo), Metal Gear Solid 2 (now I get all the mini games + VR), and Splinter Cell (the reason why I wanted the Xbox in the first place).

So far, my Xbox impressions are quite good. The system boots faster than the PS2 AND I don't have to hit the silly reset button to turn it on (oh how annoying that was). As far games, I compared MGS2 for PS2 and Xbox. Between the two, the graphics are quite similar (haven't completed it again on Xbox, but did run through some VRs), but the sound is MUCHO better. With my Dolby Digital receiver, I hated playing the PS2 with plain Dolby Pro Logic Sound. All my Xbox titles are all Dolby Digital at all times, which makes a real difference in games like Splinter Cell and in MGS2 (when I don't have the radar).

Join the club 🙂

The sound is sweet and the load times on the Xbox are HOT.

I swear - I timed it the other day - I turned on the xbox and from a new boot up to the point where I was already in halo playing in my saved game it was 28 seconds. PS2 can't even pretend to touch that.

Planning to play online? Ghost Recon is quite popular (among those who have functional XBoxen)

I'm not interested in playing the Xbox online (yet). If I want an online game, I have my existing PC. The Xbox live may happen, but definitely not in the immediate future.

I'm addicted to MotoGP. I love the fact that you can play against 14 other fools. I mean, peeps are speaking french and sh1t online. It's hilarious! 15 different personalities shouting out, talking smack.

I guess I'll get Ghost Recon next. Can anyone elaborate on the gameplay online?

Oh, congrats Vash. I hope you enjoy your Xbox. I may have to trade mine in for a life soon.🙂

If it was anything like the Ghost Recon on the PC, its quite a slow FPS game, but with teamwork, its quite cool to take out large bases of enemies. I played Ghost Recon online a few times, but was upset with the netcode and the lack of voice (at least for me at the time). With live, I would hope it works excellent for broadband players, no matter where they come from.

This is different from having to hit the power button on the XBOX how??

What you should do now is to trade in your XBox and get the GAME CUBE!! MARIO, METROID, ZELDA RULE!
🙂😉😀

On the PS2 the power button is different from the reset button, so you have to turn the system on by the switch in the back, and after you put the disc in, hit the reset button.

Oh - not if you keep that power switch on the back 24/7 like I always did!

Gah. No. Bad Beast.

The guys at my house do this all the time. And I wonder why it never keeps the preferences for DVDs or the PSX settings. Grr.

Leave the back switch on. To shut it off, you hold the reset button until the light goes red.

you've made a poor mistake. you should have kept the PS2 and get money to just buy a xbox. the xbox is great but the ps2 is also great. you're the one losing out when you 'take sides.'

btw, you forgot to mention there is slowdown in the rain scene in MGS for xbox. all that processing power and there is slow down. can't figure why they didn't clean that up.

most likely its a bad port and they didnt decided to rewrite parts of the code so it performed better on xbox, it happens with a lot of games.

Heh... good thing you specified the figuratively part... I was beginning to wonder.

yea but they went all out and did tons of extras for substance. don't see why they couldn't have spent a small fraction of the time to make sure it didnt slow down, especially during a beginning and exciting scene like the rain scene.

You should definitely consider getting Xbox Live, it's awesome. Also get Ghost Recon. Me and 2 of my buddies and the owner of a gaming center here are going to start a Ghost Recon xbox clan soon 😀

Having the games in digital is great.

For the debate between the two, I didn't simply choose the Xbox over the PS2, I already had the PS2 and was beat the only title I bought the system for (MGS2). The Xbox's booting is a welcomed change (I pay the power bill, so I never leave the component on all the time), but Dolby Digital sound in all games is a very welcome change from the PS2.

On another note, I have a GameCube as well. Metroid Prime looks good, but Zelda is what I'm waiting for. Once Zelda comes, I'll consider selling that system too, but it all depends on the games. On my last note, I still do have a PS2, but its a Japanese one. If I *really* want a US game for it, I'll mod the system. Until then, it sticks to playing japanese titles.

umm.... ok to that... you traded a system with not that many good games
for another system with even more not that many good games.
actually.... you may have just traded the ps2 for splinter cell, halo, and metal gear...yet you've already played metal gear soo ermm yeah... also.... if you're going sound wise.. there is not that big a difference... thats just like saying the Genesis was a better system over the SNES because of its "Sound"
and about this boot thing.... umm yeah like what is the difference majorly that was sooo anoying?
I mean.. I would have agreed with your statement about the xbox trade if you mentioned the Harddrive, ability to copy your games on to it and the fact that it is a wonderfly hacked system. but no... you go on and on about how this game and that game and sound and blah blah blah. 😛
DID I ALSO MENTION THAT YOU CAN PLAY SNES ON IT? phoooie!
