speaking as a father of 3 little ones, no SUV will ever be as practical for a family as a minvan. No way No how and any suv driver that tells you different is just lying.

also, minivans are easier to park, (they are no bigger externally than a mid size car), they have a lower center of gravity than suv's. they are wayy cooler.

Please.

a) My sister's new Explorer is only 4 inches longer than a new Mustang, and the same width. This makes it 6 inches SHORTER than an F-Body, and an inch THINNER.

b) Higher ground clearance and higher seating gives you better visibility when parking.

c) No way is any minivan cooler than any SUV.

d) Your statement, like mine's above, is so general it's ridiculous. Don't think I have to get into this point..
Too bad it seems to make them unable to see my "low" car behind them on the freeway as they never want to get the f out of the way...

*yawn*

Why is it that ALL SUV bashers always go for the most general, most factless based statements possible?

And yes, I'm aware of the irony of my statement 😉

We are really happy with the ride quality, visibility, options, power, and utility. It really has so much more to offer for a growing family than my Mustang.

For those who deny the safety of a Durango compared to a Mustang GT..... I think you are mistaken. I'll go as far as saying ....in a vehicle wreck, I would much rather be in an SUV if I were to be struck by another SUV.....

We also looked at the Ford Windstar, which has been awarded VERY high safety ratings for 5 years straight, but ford has priced them out of our range.

I think we got the best bang for buck truck 🙂 that fit our needs. Thanks for all the feedback!

I'd say those including my own are cooler than the vast majority of SUVs

I love my minivan. I can seat 2 more people than my friend with an explorer can and I also have more cargo room and can get bulkier stuff in it. Paying about $12k less than he did wasn't bad either 🙂.

Does your minivan have the towing capacity of an "SUV"? Can it go off-roading or drive after a heavy snow storm? Does your minivan's engine produce as much torque as an "SUV"?

chill dude.

we were specifically talking about someone who traded in a Mustang GT for an SUV. now, can that GT do any of those things you mention other than the torque??

no, matter of fact the minivan would have been better than the GT for all of those tasks except the amount of available torque.

so your arguement is wasted here.

your generalizing, i'm not, i'm responding to a specific person with specific needs.

No but since neither my friend or I tow or go off-roading those don't matter. People use their turbo van's to tow cars all the time though. Thats abot the most I would ever want to tow with one. My minivan is fwd so yes I can drive it after a heavy snow storm. It would help if I had some snow tires but sofar I haven't needed them. His v6 explorer has 240ft-lbs of torque. Mine has 180ft-lbs stock and mine ain't stock 🙂. Mine has around 230ft-lbs rightnow and I have a nice little intercooler setting behind me that will be going on soon and with that along with the more boost it wil allow me to run ought to get me closer to 300ft-lbs. So yes my engine produces as much torque as a lot of SUVs. I think the only engine that has a longer stroke than a 2.5l is a sb chevy 400 so the 2.5l turbo is a pretty torqy engine.

Some Durango's look much sportier than others... the 5.7 R/Ts are SWEET.

<-- very much into sporty-looking SUVs.
