Trade in your junk for Buy.com gift certificates!

Interesting idea, but they really stiff you on the trade in value. I plugged in my G4 Powerbook just for fun (15", 1.5GHz, 2gb RAM, etc.) and they offered $600 for trade in. 🙁

Put in my Olympus D-340R 1.3MP DigiCam... still in brand new cond with box, manuals, 16mb card, etc. === $3.18... yea

They offerd me around what I paid for my Dell I just bought from the Dell Outlet. At least I know I got a good deal.

The thing offerd me $80 for my Celeron 800 laptop :-/

lol Centrino 3.0ghz laptop. 😛

You could make a few $ if you had some free time on your hands

Its a big pain in the ass though, I played with the configurator and checked out some parts, can make $50 here or there but probably wouldnt be worth time

Hmm. I entered in the specs for what they would give me for a trade-in for my ancient Toshiba T1100 (I think) 486 B&W laptop.
Well, the result I got was... their page crashed. 🙁

Guess they don't want that ancient thing, don't blame em. 😛

They quoted me $74 for a Dell 733 Mhz Celeron desktop. That might be fair... Nikon 990 spec'd out at around $173, kind of low there...

The ways to make it work is find out what they are paying for parts individually and maximize the PC components in a way to maximize resell value. Say a PC is 80 bucks with a 6 GB hard drive. Change it to an 80 GB drive and it goes to 110 or something. Then try video cards, modems, etc.. till you find the golden goose.

lol they're offering me 600 usd for my laptop too: Toshiba 5205-s703 ( 1 gb ram, 15 inch tft , win xp home , p4-m 2 ghz, 2x60 gb hdd's etc)

I think i can definately get more for it... probably a 1000 usd?

After $30-$40 for shipping it's more like Buy.com will buy that for -$32.04. Might as well give it to charity, less expensive than paying Buy.com to take your old computer.

Funny thing is I noticed HP has a buyback program where you pay so much for a yearly membership and YOU PAY THEM (what the crap?) to take back old equipment. I figured it would be good for like $10-$15 for accesories or something to trade in an old Pentium I system...
