Trade going not-so-well, requesting assistance from San Jose residents

Is it just me or are a majority of Ebayers sh!tty traders? I'm posting this here in the Off Topic section because I don't want to take any attention or space away from the actual trades going on in the FS/T forums.

Alright, October 28th I found this ad on Ebay for an Antec Aria. Link. I e-mailed him, made him an offer of $90 shipped for it since they're $97 from Ewiz, an actual retailer. He accepts the offer, gives me his address to send the money order to.

One of my friends just so happened to owe me $90 for a monitor I sold him, so I asked him to take care of the MO for me. He picked one up from WaWa (I'm not sure if these can be traced? but he's got the stub), and had it mailed out in early November, I'm not sure exactly when.

The first e-mail was sent October 28th with my offer, he responded the same day accepting the offer and saying he'd cancel the auction early, which he did. Four hours later I got another e-mail from him with his address. October 31st I e-mailed him again telling him the money order would be sent the next day, he replied same day asking me for my address so he could have it "ready to go".

November 1st I replied with my mailing address. By November 7th I've heard nothing from him, so I send him another e-mail asking him to give me a heads up when he receives the money order, and another one when it's been shipped, and to please provide any tracking info if available. Nov 8th I send another e-mail asking for any type of response at all. I finally got one November 9th after 9 days of no communication saying Yes, the money order arrived that day, and it would be shipped "shortly".

I sent him a little note after that, another one on the 10th asking who the carrier will be and if there will be tracking info. The 11th was Veteran's day, a holiday so I ask if he can ship Friday because the Aria is the last piece I need to my Half-Life 2 puzzle thx to the power supply.

It's now November 17th and I've heard nothing from him since the 9th. On November 10th he left feedback for another Ebay member he dealt with here. (chile5o is his name)

I've been e-mailing other Ebay members he's recently dealth with pleading that they use the "request contact information" button to get his phone number so I can call him to find out what's up and why he's not been answering my e-mails, as well as if the damn Aria is ever gonna get shipped. He had 200+ positive feedback on Ebay, so I figured it'd be safe to deal with him outside Ebay's loving walls. I'm not calling him a troll...yet, but I am worried about the complete lack of communication, seeing as it was great when we were working the deal out. It's hardly any trouble to drop someone a little note regardless of how busy you may be. I gave him my address November 1st, so it's just a matter of him dropping the box off at the post office.

If anyone lives in San Jose and is willing to swing by this guy's house to see what's up or remind him that we have a deal going on, I'd really appreciate that. PM me for his address, I don't expect anyone to go more than 10-15 minutes out of their way, don't want to inconvenience anyone so I'd prefer that you were in the zip code 95136. I'm hoping someone from Ebay will help me out here and get his number so I can get a hold of him.

Thanks in advance to everyone for bumps and advice.

i live in 95131 san jose. i dont know if i have time to swing by, but i know for a fact there are quite a few bay area people on the boards. they will probably be able to help you out.

Thanks a lot, if you think you may have a free moment in the near future and would like his address I can PM it to you. If not, no trouble at all I understand, and thanks for the bump.

Yeah it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but if you have a price they're looking for and can save them from the sales fees on Ebay they'll be glad to take it, and you don't have to wait 5 days for it to end. I've done a few deals outside of Ebay like this and haven't had a problem yet, plus he had decent feedback so I figured it was safe enough. I'm beginning to wish I would've paid the $7 more and ordered it retail, but the bargain hunter in me said go for it.

I just now got an e-mail from him... no tracking info or anything though, so I'm gonna take his word that it was shipped, and give it another few weeks.

Me: Oct 28th - "Is the Aria really brand new? I've bought numerous "brand new in the box" items from Ebay members with lots of feedback that were obviously used. Did you buy it and decide not to use it? If you're willing to close this auction early I'm offering $90 for the Aria (they're $97 from Ewiz.com), and you would avoid the final sales fee from Ebay, I'd also be willing to pay via Money Order or Personal Check so you wouldn't have to deal with PayPal fees either. Let me know if you're interested or not, thanks."

Him: Oct 28th - "Yes it is brand new. Only pulled it out of the box to check it out, never installed a motherboard in it. I'll take your offer, just let me know and I'll cancel the auction."

Me: Oct 28th - "Cool, I can PayPal you today, it's freebie day so no fees. Go ahead and cancel the auction, What address should I send paypal to? Hopefully you get this before midnight so I can pay before the PayPal thank-you day ends."

2nd e-mail: Oct 28th - "lol sorry I didn't even notice the No PayPal. Go ahead and cancel the auction bro, what address should I send the money order to?"

Him: Oct 31st - "No Problem
My mailing address is :
[His addy here]
Andy"

Me: Oct 31st - "Money order for the Aria will be sent out on Monday."

Me: Nov 1st - "Shipping address will be:
[My addy here]
Thanks."

Me: Nov 7th - "Give me a heads up when you receive the money order please. Also a little note and any tracking info if applicable would be very much appreciated once shipped. Thanks Andy."

Me: Nov 8th - "Looking for any kind of response, drop me a note please."

Him: Nov 9th - "Yes I just received your payment in the mail today, I will be shipping it shortly.
Andy"

Me: Nov 9th - "Ah, awesome. Thanks for the reply man, I was gettin a lil worried for a second there. Lookin forward to receiving it, btw, would you happen to have heatware?"

Me: Nov 10th - "Just wondering who the carrier will be, UPS, Fedex, USPS? Will there be some form of tracking, and can you mail it out Friday? I understand tomorrow is a Federal holiday, so the Post Offices may be closed, but I'm hoping you'll be able to mail it out by Friday. I've got all the parts for this computer, and I can't put it together without the Aria. Half-Life 2 is comin out Tuesday, and there's no way I'll have it by then, but I'd like to have my rig up and running sometime next week if possible, thank you."

Me: Nov 12th - "Another thing, the shipping addy is:
Andrew Pattee
15560 Trisail Court
Dumfries, VA 22026
The MO came from a friend in NJ, not my residence. I'd also like an ETA on the shipment please. I suspect you'll be shipping Fedex or UPS ground, and cross-country I'm sure that will take at least a full business week. I need the power supply to make sure everything is working properly in case something needs to be RMAd. I'm considering buying another powersupply, from the way things are going I have a feeling the Aria is not going to be here any time soon. I'd appreciate it if you could answer my e-mails a little more frequently than every 5 days."

Where I start to get pissed: Nov 14th - I don't know if you're taking your sweet ass time with this deal because it was conducted outside of Ebay, or worse, if you're trying to dupe me out of $90. If I don't hear from you soon, with a tracking number for the Aria, I'm going to start contacting members you've dealt with and get your phone number so that I can actually get a hold of you. If that fails to resolve anything I'm going to have to contact your local authorities in San Jose. We started this deal on October 28th, during that time you answered my questions in a very timely manner. Now that you've been paid I'm hardly hearing anything from you at all. You claim you received the money order November 9th, it's now the 14th and I've STILL yet to hear an update from you. You had 200+ positive feedback on Ebay so I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and conduct this deal outside of Ebay. I'm giving you Until Wednesday morning to respond with tracking info before I start pursuing your information and eventually the police. I can understand if you're busy, but that's no excuse to answering e-mail once a week. It takes 5 seconds of your time to drop me a note, and I gave you my address well ahead of time so you could "have it ready to go," so it's just a matter of dropping it off at the post office. I'm not happy about the way this deal is going, and there's no way you could've kept a positive reputation on Ebay if all your deals were handled this way, meaning you're blowing me off because I can't leave you feedback, or you're trying to take my money. Again you have until Wednesday, I hate to be an asshole but this is getting out of hand, and I apologize if you've already shipped and your communication is just lacking. Let me know please, thanks.

Him: Nov 17th - "Your item has been shipped, calm down.
You paid no shipping costs , remember that." [<-wtf?]

Me: Nov 17th - "Thank you, may I inquire what carrier you used and is there any tracking info? I apologized before if I was being an ass, and I'm doing it again, but I tried to be as polite about it as possible. Put yourself into my position, you've sent someone $90 and the communication was great in the beginning, but then you go 9 days without hearing anything from this person, get a 2 sentence response, and go another 8 days without a note of some kind. Wouldn't you be a little worried?"

Nother update, Him: Nov 17th - "You should of received an e-mail from UPS with a tracking number.
I've been there as well
Andy"

Me: Nov 17th - "Ok thank you. What day was this shipped? If it was recently, they're probably just slow, but I've yet to receive any notification from UPS. Would you happen to have a copy of the Tracking # on hand?"

i'll be up in san jose come round thanksgiving time. ATOT meet to pound a troll?
I'm 95129, looks like a decent 10-20 minute drive, but if you need help i'll try to be of assistance.

He claims it's shipped, and I'm inclined to believe him. Buying himself time wouldn't seem to do him much good in my opinion, unless he's planning to leave the country over $90. So, hopefully this will be resolved by Thanksgiving, and if not I'll be sure to let you know, thanks. I'd love to join in, but it might be kinda tough getting there from the East Coast.
