Trade A70 for S400?

My girlfriend wants a digital camera. More specifically, she wants my A70. 🙂 It's a great camera and I can see why she likes it. Now I'm trying to decide if I should jump up to the S400 and give her my A70. I've always liked smaller cameras, as they're easier to carry around. It has higher resolution (3MP is fine for me), a larger CCD, and 3x zoom (I don't use zoom much either). I also don't take advantage of all the manual settings that the A70 offers, nor do I think I would buy any lens filters. I DO like the A70s preset modes for fast motion pictures, portraits and landscapes. Looking at the S400, I don't see those. I looked at the S230 and the quality just isn't there. The S40, S45 don't have the macro that the A70 and S400 have.

What to do? 😕
 
s400 has focus modes (normal -> macro -> landscape)
and contineous shoot (with the timer button).

May be it works for the same use.

I am hoping to buy a new dica.

S400, A70 look nice to me. But welcome others. 🙂
 
Get a Canon A75. Not sure exactly when they will be available.

A70 has 3.0 million pixel effective resolution, 1.5 inch display with 78,000 pixels
A75 has 3.2 million pixel effective resolution, 1.8 inch display with 110,000 pixels

If you are happy with what you have why change.

At least this way you can feel like you are upgrading.

No, read the specs on canon's site. A70 has a 3.2 megapixel CCD with 3.0 megapixel effective resolution. A75 has a 3.3 megapixel CCD with 3.2 megapixel effective resolution.

LOL.
Both run their best resolution at 2048x1536 = a true effective pixels of 3.14M
They can market whatever they want: 3.0, 3.2, 3.4 (sony). But if its a 2048x1536 (a 4:3 ration of common 3 MP cam), its a 3MP camera. The extra just a waste.

I said forget it... and bought the A80 instead. 🙂 I don't really need a smaller camera, but when I used a G2, the flip-out LCD was great, and I'll appreciate the bigger CCD and extra megapixel if I start printing. I basically got a free case from Dell which my gf can take if she likes it better. Their stackable $30 coupon and 15% off cameras was too good to pass up.
