Traction Control issue - 2010 genesis coupe *Updated*

My car this time - for the last few days the traction control engages/light comes on anytime I drive it. Can manually turn it on/off when I first start the car, but as soon as I press the brake to engage the shifter the light comes on and stays on until I kill the ignition.

Thoughts? I've read elsewhere that it could be related to a wheel speed sensor or the brake lights, but have only just started troubleshooting. Disconnecting the battery didn't help and I don't have a reader to see if any codes are stored.

Thoughts? Seems like more of an annoyance than anything since the car drives fine and no other lights on, but always interested in the ATG folks' take on it.

Edit - base 3.8 v6, if it matters

Update - dealer said the code indicated a faulty brake light switch, which is keeping in line with what I had read on the gencoupe forums. Covered under ext warranty, no fuss no muss.

Well like I said, it literally just started in the last day or two. Planning to take it in, just thought I'd ask about it here as well.

wheel speed sensor on those has been known to cause that issue. Get it scanned. Sometimes its as easy as reconnecting the harness attachment.

make sure item 26 is plugged in on all four tires if you want to do it yourself. Thats a picture of the rears. Fronts look a bit different but are almost the same.

CEL could be a popped gas cap or a million other things.

cant say i've had the TCS blink at me...except when I drive the shit out of my GC at autocross (but now i never run TC, even on my 1st run) or drive in the snow.

Uh, why wouldn't you just take it to the dealer?

Perhaps he has a desire for personal understanding and may want a little before he goes to the stealership to deal with the service apes?

Don't Hyundais still come with that 100k mile warranty? It don't matter how many times it breaks, it's covered yo! I likes spending my time visiting the dealer cause my car dun broke down... as long as it's free! :ninja:

Powertrain.

Pretty sure ABS (therefore traction/stability) is not covered.

OP, is the light just coming on, or are you saying it's actually activating and trying to brake your rear wheels?

If the latter...you got mismatched tires on there?

Light was coming on - the normal yellow 'swerving car with the word OFF' traction indicator. Didn't feel at all like it was actively braking. CEL came on when I was driving home from an appt yesterday, don't know that it's a separate issue but it hasn't been on the whole time the tcs was. And nope, same tires on both rears.

Bought a new 3/36 warranty when I got the car from the dealer at 33k. Has 38k now so I'm not terribly worried. More just wondering what to expect.

From what I understand, if ever there is an issue with T/C on any car, it will remain in the OFF position, that's why you didn't feel any "active" braking....also the word OFF would mean its OFF.

I highly doubt your CEL light is related, as the CEL light generally pertains to emissions related problems, but not always...ie.misfire, gas cap, crank position sensor. I have never seen a CEL light for anything braking/traction control related....that's why they have their own lights.

Yeah I was surprised to see it as well. But I guess it's better for everything to go wrong at once eh?

Traction control on the coupes don't involve brakes, I believe. It just kills throttle.. at least it does on my '10.

Ah. I'm surprised. That's...intelligent. Way too many cars with violent braking as a 'normal function' of TCS. Hell, my FWD car does that...it feels like a RWD muscle car with worn out suspension wheel-hopping. Except...in the front. I do not enjoy it.

And it only happens on the street when I have mild tire slippage taking off in the rain. It will let me spin in grass/mud all day. Not that I think it would help in that situation, it's just...curious.



Also, guys, there was an update in the OP. Dealer replaced a bad brake switch.

Yeah, that was the only real difference I ever noticed when the TCS light kicked on - seemed to take just a hair more gas to get the car up to speed. Guess that explains it, probably a safeguard to make sure you don't go ass-end around a turn or off the side of the road.

Worth noting that it was never a blinking light - I've only managed to get that to happen in one spot (goddamn cool springs gravel intersections), or on really wet\icy roads. Live and learn I guess.

hmmm well after a bunch of googling, i came across this post. I've been experiencing the same issues for the past 5 days. I also replaced my brake light switch which resolved the issue for the majority people, but not mine. I was wondering if you ever found a solution to this TCS issue?
