tracking an IP address

Someone is harassing our company and I was able to get their IP address from my email since they sent it from a yahoo.
it came back as Cox Communications, but that's all I know how to get.

The only people I can think of that know who has this IP, is his ISP (Cox), and the FBI & NSA.

Does anyone know how to trace an IP like this??
If you do, I will paypal you some $$....

i am not trying to do anything wrong, just find out who is doing this to our company since he created a bogus email, etc.

This IS his real Ip though! 🙂

Contact Cox and alert them that you're receiving attacks from one of their IP addresses. I'm sure it's their responsibility to shut the guy down (I know it is where I work).
Edit: After making another pass over your post I think I understand you to be saying that someone is harassing your company through e:mail. Is this correct? If so it would probably greatly depend on the kind of things being said in the e:mails - I was originally under the impression it was illegal attempts to access your equipment.
 
You can ask the company[s lawyer to write a letter of complain to Cox and let them take care of it.

If you actually want to know who the person is, your lawyer would have to convince a Judge to subpoena Cox for the name.

I have tried calling the local PD, and they just said he has to be sending PHYSICAL THREATS!
Can you believe that?

I am going to try giving Cox a call, but I doubt they will do anything about it.
Is there anything else I can do perhaps ? Anyway someone at Cox can just give me his dang name and tel. #?
I'd really like to give him a piece of my mind!! 😱

Dude, don't spam Craigslist with your ads. Its not cool.
 
Erm... IP information may exist in the email header, not that it does you any good without getting a subpoena or
so criminal investigation started for appropriate grounds.
I'd have to agree with the response you got from the police. Just because something
annoys you doesn't make it criminally offensive. If the person is complaining / insulting, being obnoxious or
petulant that's just free speech. If they're doing something specifically illegal, that's another story.
If you don't want to receive mail from that address, just block it at your own mail server as you'd do for
most anything else, and likely they'll either go away or continue to waste their time, either way, it'd be of little
consequence to your company.
Of course the best way to avoid irate attitudes about your company is to provide great service. 🙂

We do provide great service, and unfortunately our competitor can't stand it so he bought this illegal software and harasses me now.

I need to find out who he is and get his info.

If you can get a new from a COX IP, PM me.. I will pay you.

Um, there is absolutely no chance of that happening. Not without a major feat of social engineering and some completely incompetent employees.

So... What is this illegal software he bought and how is it that it deletes postings from craigslist? Have you talked to craigslist about your ads being pulled?

If you need to know the guys info because you don't know him, how do you know its a competitor?

If you aren't doing anything illegal then you should have no problem providing more details.

I work for a ISP and i know that if some insane Craigslist wielding lunatic asked me for user info on a IP and offered to pay me I would tell him to jump in a lake.

And on the other side of the line.
If I was harassing someone, and they got my name and phone number to call and "give me a piece of there mind" I would say HAHAHAHA you fail and just do it more.

You got the best advice from JackMDS. Quit whining. You are apparently hiding something as the questions others were asking were originally intended to gain more info to help you. Until we all realzed there was much more to this than what you were describing.
